ESSEX, March 5, 2012 (LifeSiteNews.com) - Jill Recknell is mourning the loss of her grandson, despite the fact that he is alive and well. Its just that, according to five-year-old Zach Avery and his parents, hes not her grandson anymore. Hes her granddaughter.
Zachs family, who live in England, says that he was a normal boy up until last year, when he became obsessed with the cartoon character Dora the Explorer and started dressing in girls clothing. Zach before becoming a "girl."
He just turned round to me one day and said, Mummy, Im a girl, Theresa Avery, Zachs mother, told the Daily Mail, when the family went public last month with Zachs story. I assumed he was just going through a phase and left it at that. But then it got serious and he would become upset if anyone referred to him as a boy.
After a psychologist diagnosed him with Gender Identity Disorder, the family has asked everyone to treat him as a girl.
Theresa and her husband Darren say Zachs school has been really supportive. They have told his fellow classmates that their son has the body of a boy, but the brain of a girl. The school created gender-neutral lavatories for him, and the family hopes he will be able to use the staff toilets when he gets older.
But Recknell, Zachs maternal grandmother, says she cannot get on board.

Id rather see him kicking a football than parading in a pink dress, she told People. He was born a boy. It says so on his birth certificate.
The situation, she says, has made many of the normally joyous aspects of being a grandparent painful for her.
Grandmothers love seeing photos of their grandchildren growing up but I could never bear to look at a picture of Zach pushing a pram or cuddling a Barbie, Recknell told the news service.
Gift-giving occasions are particularly difficult, she confided: I could never bring myself to send a doll or girls clothing it would seem so wrong.
The whole situation is heartbreaking for me to be honest and has left me in tears, added the grandmother of seven.
Recknell is not the only family member with reservations. Her son, Jay, says that his nephews transformation has divided the family and raised concerns about Zachs parents decision to go public.
According to the Daily Mail, the Averys are now negotiating with a tabloid newspaper to sell Zachs story to them.
Zachs story comes amidst reports that the number of young children being labeled transgendered is on the rise, with clinics even catering to such children and providing treatment that can involve being administered puberty-blocking drugs to stop the onset of puberty, and subsequent hormone therapy to help the child look like the opposite sex.
In one famous case reported on last year, a seven-year-old boy who now says he is a girl was allowed to join the Girl Scouts.
why isn’t someone taking this child away from his idiot parents?
In the good old days they would have been beaten senseless for this child abuse
...he became obsessed with the cartoon character Dora the Explorer....

I wish someone who has the technical know-how would study that series — and a lot of others— to look for subliminal messages. I am betting they are there.
this is pure child abuse
So if he’d been a big fan of Bugs Bunny, his parents would let him BE a bunny rabbit???
No, it is blatant “illegal” promotion on that stupid show.
I am so sick of “wetback” and enviroMental promotion on kids’ shows. It is absolutely saturated.
At 4 years old my daughter announced she was tinkerbell the fairy. Luckily I did not allow her to put on her wings and leap off the 2nd floor balcony.
The grandmother needs to be thrown into jail for hate crimes. :-/ <-— sarcasm tag.
I’m with you, Granny: I can’t bear it. It is sheer wickedness to mess with any child biologically in the name of “gender confusion”, a diagnosis invented out if thin air.
The kid’s only 5 and he’s expressing these ideas?Sounds like the libs got to him pretty early with their homo indoctrination.

Oh, I realize that, but I am betting that there are a lot of subliminal perv messages being transmitted to kids through TV shows like this.
When I was five years old I wanted to be Spider-Man. My parents didn’t let me climb the sides of skyscrapers or shoot webbing at people (though I did dress up like Spidey for Halloween).
My 3-year-old grandson announced last week that he is going to be a girl and wear dresses. Fortunately, his parents were quite aware that it was a statement be ignored.
The quack “psychologist” should be horsewhipped and have their medical license revoked.
When I see shows like that, you can sometimes see it. Sometimes its pretty subtle, sometimes its not.
those who tout gender confusion....have it half right
I am a male. When I was 8, the movie musical “Annie” came out. I loved it and was rather obsessed with it, the songs, the characters and the actress that played her. But at no point did I want to chop off my stuff and put on the curly red wig and red dress.
Must be the age, at 4 years old my daughter decided she was ‘pongo’ from 100 Dalmatians. She refused to be answer to her given name, it was pongo and she was a doggy. Ah, the memories :)
All parents have these stories, I am sure of it. I do wonder when this new diagnosis came to be and how. It’s just so disturbing.
