What does a man capable of building electric cars and space launch vehicles need? Perhaps a submarine car once driven by James Bond.
When the car-turned-submarine from the 007 classic "The Spy Who Loved Me" was sold at auction in September for nearly a million dollars, the identity of the buyer was kept secret, as it usually is in collector car auctions. Thursday night, a Tesla Motors spokeswoman confirmed that the submarine, modeled after a Lotus sports car, had been bought by Tesla (TSLA) CEO Elon Musk.
Musk plans to take the movie prop and turn it into an actual car that transforms into a submarine, the very thing it was built to portray in the movie.
"I was disappointed to learn that it can't actually transform," Musk said in a statement provided by Tesla. "What I'm going to do is upgrade it with a Tesla electric powertrain and try to make it transform for real."

The shorts should be interesting.
Do we get Fried Musk as a performance bonus?
Probably more useful than an all-electric car.
lol - nicely done.
Your stimulus dollars at work.
Pray America is Waking Up
If I lived in a city with a mild climate and never drove more than 15 miles away I would consider an electric vehicle.
Mind you, I live in the mountains west of Denver, and have 70 mile round trip daily commute...so I'll stick to my Jeep Wrangler Unlimited :-)
“Mind you, I live in the mountains west of Denver, and have 70 mile round trip daily commute...”
The libs in Tallahassee have tried to cut off major streets, making them limited to one lane each way for cars, one for busses and one for bikes. Their stated desire was to “force” people to use the bus. Now, these people all live in the most expensive neighborhoods and drive BMW’s and Mercedes. They wouldn’t be affected as the routes cut off are E/W and they all live to the North.
The other thing libs do is attempt to increase gas prices also to force people to use the bus. I live 18 miles out of town and have bought a VW diesel. My gas car costs me $12-18 to drive into town and back. (Freepmail me if you want a great deal on a low miles Mercury Marauder?)
Kind of like how Tesla would instantly sink without the ability to surface if taxpayer subsidies were cutoff.
Yeah, gives me a warm feeling to know my tax dollars are going to buy his toys.
I guess this means that the flying car is still not feasible, else Musk would be all over it.
