Language barrier?
In Mexico?
Mazatec Indian cannot speak Spanish?
Make that. NATIVE BORN Mazatec Indian cannot speak Spanish?
Hmm.
Mexico doesn't offer “Spanish as a Second Language” in their schools?
I am sure this could never happen here, because all immigrants and native born are taught ENGLISH. /s, major /s

Language barrier? If a nurse can't tell a woman is in labor, even without a common language, then "nurse" doesn't mean anything but "person collecting a salary for standing around in a medical facility."

We visited Oaxaca about 20 years ago and found few locals spoke Spanish.

But wait! Isn’t that the way they gave birth before those evil Europeans invaded the paradise now known as THE NEW WORLD?
It is the perfect natural birth!
We will have it once Obamacare kicks in!

Oaxaca has something like 22 Indian languages/ tribes living in the surrounding area, most of them probably illiterate and pretty much NOT Western civ. When I was visiting there with my mom, a woman jumped into the town fountain, stripped herself naked, and bathed in there. No one missed a beat. It is NOT Mexico City there, and I bet this stuff happens all the time. This woman was speaking an Indian language - they mentioned that they didn’t understand her, and vice versa - and probably came down from the hills.
I was born near the California border east of the coastal mountains - not THAT long ago. There was a lot of agriculture there - my mom said the Mexican women who were working in the fields simply gave birth right there and then continued to work.
It probably has been so since time immemorial.

Hey, my daughter had a hairdresser who shocked her with the story of how her sister had waited too long to go to the hospital, and she (the hairdresser) ended up delivering the baby on the lawn in front of a couple of young boys on bikes. It happens.
Now, if the "clinic" was one that is going broke giving free service to people who will never pay the bill, then maybe there is another side to this story.

Okay, I am responding to myself, naughty girl didn’t read the full article, I thought it was one of our clinics close to the border, where pregnant girls try to get to so that the baby is considered an American citizen. Sorry to my fellow Freepers.

This is more a sign of the rampant racism that exists in Mexico, despite the fact that liberals want you to believe that Only Whites are racist. I saw this myself with Hispanic employees I had, they looked down on the “Los Indios” and said that they didn’t speak Spanish.

Everytime we have a government shutdown our government run ObamaCare will be shutdown as well. Yiippeee!! I have been giving thought to this exact thing during this shutdown. Look at what this petty, vindictive man is doing to the American Citizen because we are not giving in to his out of control spending. Imagine if he (or someone like him) would have our healthcare at his disposal to punish us with.

Indios in mexico are treated extremely bad. I wont forget I saw cops beating “squaws” in the streets of Juarez many years ago. They were not allowed int the shopping districts.

We flew down to Hautulco way back when there was only one hotel on the beach, chopped literally out of the jungle. With little to do but swim and eat, we asked the hotel director where we might see “real Mexico,” and he suggested we fly to Oaxaca.
He got our tickets for the next day and we flew slowly between the mountains in a sparkling clean DC-3, operated by Air Liberdat. Many on the airplane were Indians, dressed in white, wearing sandals.
The Oaxaca airport terminal was tiled in onyx with a thatched roof. Mexicana flew in from Mexico City as the only connector flight.
We stayed at the Hotel Presidente (presidente street, Presidente bar, presidente office building.)
Using my halfway high school Spanish, I introduced myself to the hotel clerk and my third try at asking for a room, he relented and said “I speak English, senior.”
There was a large church on the plaza where, in the evening, local teens took part in a dating ritual. While mom and dad watched from sidewalk tables (I think at the Restaurant Presidente,) the girls walked clockwise around this square and the guys walked counter clockwise, passing notes and touching hands with one another. It was very stylish and very old fashioned.
In the morning, we got a cab to drive us around for half a day. Traffic was directed by women police officers, standing on elevated platforms at four corners, uniformed, with white gloves. Nearly everyone was 5 feet tall and brown. Very Indian and not typical Mexican.
We just missed the Oaxaca Radish Festival...
