Who's gonn'a confront an armed elk hunter?
They're all home, enjoying a beer waiting for the vacay check.
Enjoy.

Someone will tell you when you are hunting. Otherwise, it's open for hunting.

Easy: Will it annoy you a lot if it is closed? If yes - it's closed.

I was on the forests in central ID all week. Never noticed any campgrounds shut and I stopped by a few outhouses and found them in working order (thanks to gravity).
Maybe call the sheriff in the county you are going to.

Call the state wildlife agency that issued your hunting license.

Funding Lapse
Due to the lapse in agency funding, the sale of all types of permits (i.e., recreation, firewood, forest products, mineral materials for example) are suspended, recreation.gov reservations are suspended, and all federally owned recreation sites are closed. All offices are closed. These services will be available once funding is restored.
Law enforcement, fire suppression, and other essential services will continue without interruption.
This web site will remain available for public safety announcements and updates such as for wildfire, floods, and so forth. We will attempt to make timely updates about public health and safety on these web pages as appropriate. We sincerely regret this inconvenience.
For general information on Forest Service shutdown procedures, please visit http://www.whitehouse.gov/omb/contingency-plans/.

I love it. Americans are flouting the royal decree of the president at will.
People are ignoring the barricades on H-11 in Michigan to get to pictured rocks national lakeshore.
I hear they're doing the same at Sleeping Bear Dunes on Lake Michigan as well.

I would say you should still be able to hunt there as long as you can find a way to get to the place where you want to hunt without using the park roads and are otherwise self-sufficient. And don’t expect to get rescued right away if something goes wrong.
Stay safe.

The elk were also placed on furlough so they are not legal game during the fedgov shutdown.

Never mind the elk, start hunting the feral government employees and employ the 3S (shoot, shovel, shut-up).
