How do I determine if the Selaway Bitterroot National Forest in Idaho is shut down for elk hunting? There are no answers at the offices. Campsites are closed, but that does not necessarily mean hunting is closed.

I was on the forests in central ID all week. Never noticed any campgrounds shut and I stopped by a few outhouses and found them in working order (thanks to gravity).

Maybe call the sheriff in the county you are going to.

Funding Lapse

I would say you should still be able to hunt there as long as you can find a way to get to the place where you want to hunt without using the park roads and are otherwise self-sufficient. And don’t expect to get rescued right away if something goes wrong.
