While the basic premise of global warming has a solid basis in fundamental physical chemistry -- that carbon-containing gases trap sunlight, turning it into heat -- a great unknown is how the Earth will respond to this heating by increasing levels of atmospheric carbon.

Not exactly. The % of absorption of light capability from CO2 gas has a logarithmic response that weakens under higher concentrations of CO2 gas. So eventually you reach a saturation point where higher CO2 levels mean no more absorption or no more warming. We are close to that saturation point now, which explains why temperatures have not risen the past 16 years, while CO2 gas concentrations have increased.
Reminds of the annual hurricane predictions put out by the National Hurricane Center.
They come out with big numbers initially and then downgrade them a few times.
Happens every year.

Why is that?
It responds even before any additional heating. Larger concentrations of CO2 speed plant growth pulling CO2 out of the atmosphere at a greater rate.

The article starts how stating it’s a scientific fact that CO2 absorbs sunlight and causes the earth to warm. That is repeated over and over by the left. It is also, total BS and has never been proven. CO2 is the POLITICAL CATALYST the frauds wanted but could never prove without manipulating the data. The new report is another HIDE THE DECLINE event by the left to pull the wool over our heads. I believe ZERO of anything these scammers have say.
Well, the IPCC and the three Global Warming Amigos will have to retire to the Dept. of Fakery to cook up their next round of hard sell nonsense.
What's tragically laughable, is that so many millions of people have bought into the idea that just four tenths of one percent of an essential atmospheric gas, is a poison that is killing the planet.
Excuse me, but CO2 is what plants breathe in and we breathe out. It's called the 'carbon cycle'. Something that used to be taught in grade school.
Never mind that in prehistoric times, there was ten times as much CO2 in Earth's atmosphere, and the planet was overflowing with life of all kinds. The dinosaurs lived on a much greener planet than we do today, yet somehow the same CO2 that was responsible for those lush conditions, is going to burn the planet up today.

It is not absorption of incident short wave solar radiation by CO2 that heats the air, but rather absorption of long wave back radiation.
I’m not any kind of a physical chemist, but is it not the case (1) that CO2 absorbs long wave back radiation in only limited portions of the radiation spectrum, and (2) that the long wave absorption capacity of CO2 is rather easily saturated?
Also involved in the heating process is the efficiency of heat transfer from CO2 molecules to other components of the atmosphere.
All light absorption occurs in very narrow exact bandwidths. It is an energy state phase change from one electronic orbit to another. There is only so much light in the narrow bandwidths that match the specific energy state phase exchanges within CO2. Whether it be long wave or short wave IR.

This scam seems to have run it's course... time for crazy liberals to come up with a new 'end of the world unless we give them money and control' scam.
The mistake liberals made with the global warming scam was dire predictions were easily debunked because we're all here and now and the damn ice isn't melting... sea levels aren't rising and none of the stuff they said would be happening NOW is happening. We can look around us and see they're nuts. Their next scam needs to be a hundred years out...
