A camera trap set out for endangered Siberian (Amur) tigers in the Russian Far East photographed something far more rare: a golden eagle capturing a young sika deer.
The three images only cover a two-second period, but show an adult golden eagle clinging to the deer's back. Its carcass was found two weeks later, just a few yards from the camera, initially puzzling researchers.
"I saw the deer carcass first as I approached the trap on a routine check to switch out memory cards and change batteries, but something felt wrong about it. There were no large carnivore tracks in the snow, and it looked like the deer had been running and then just stopped and died." said lead author Dr. Linda Kerley of ZSL, who runs the camera trap project. "It was only after we got back to camp that I checked the images from the camera and pieced everything together. I couldn't believe what I was seeing."

Wow.
My sister lived on the plains of Colorado and she witnessed an eagle take her cat, that seemed possible, this is unbelievable.

And then the eagle flew into a windmill farm and was killed.

Golden Eagles are larger than Bald Eagles.
We have several of each in my general neighborhood (less than 1 mile from my home).
Had a good size black bear in my trash can at 4:00 AM today - did not do any damage. He left a BIG poop in the driveway!

The snows tell many stories.

Great video! There were some pictures of a dead mountain lion and a mountain goat posted here a couple of months ago. The mountain lion had tried to catch the goat on a cliff and they both feel off and died on the road below. It took place at Glacier National Park.

We see those in our backyard, but it is only rabbit tracks that end abruptly in the snow.

That’s clear evidence right there in the snow that the deer sprouted wings and flew away.

I live very close to the Mississippi river. At certain times of the year bald eagles are so common we don't take a second look. If the river freezes over there will still be open water by the locks and they will gather there. I have counted over 80 eagles in one spot. They are quite used to people and will sometimes fly over at 20’ or so. To get an idea of the wing size just think of cutting a 4x8 sheet of plywood in half lengthwise.
