There are fewer than 13 million legally owned firearms in circulation in Russia, compared with an estimated 300 million in the United States.

There, fixed it.

>>>It’s illegal for Russian citizens to own automatic and semi-automatic guns.<<<

Bullcrap. 60% civilian shotguns and rifles in Russia are built around AK.
Saiga, Vepr etc. Prohibited in US - an SVD semi-auto milspec sniper rifle sells as a civilian ‘Tiger’ rifle in Russia.
Bolt-action guns are very rare there, mostly imports.

BTW, Russian homicides are way too different comparing to US.
95% are domestic or drunk disputes between siblings.
Street homicide, armed robbery leading to a death of a victim are state-level emergencies. I mean if a gas station in Pacific region was robbed at gunpoint it makes headlines in Moscow 5000 miles away.
I’m not telling you can walk in a bad neighborhood at night without any risk but the chance to get mugged is about 10 times lower than in a good old US. A chance to get killed in process is close to zero.
