Bullcrap. 60% civilian shotguns and rifles in Russia are built around AK.
Saiga, Vepr etc. Prohibited in US - an SVD semi-auto milspec sniper rifle sells as a civilian ‘Tiger’ rifle in Russia.
Bolt-action guns are very rare there, mostly imports.

Agreed, that sounds incorrect. Semi-auto rifles are legal for Russian civilians to own, though I believe you've got to first own a shotgun for five years (one license renewal interval) before they'll grant the rifle permit. Full-auto is not legal (though the substantial underworld doesn't seem to care).
