The Outer Limits debuted on Monday, September 16, 1963 on ABC. Although this imaginative science fiction anthology series was cancelled midway through its second season, it gained a good cult following and proved to be highly influential.
The show had several truly fine episodes.
The Wikipedia article is very informative.
Many of the episodes are available online.

“David McCallum”
Sigh, I love him.
I don’t really remember any of the episodes, but of course I remember the opening “....we control the horizontal, we control the vertical....”
I was so happy and proud of the people who worked on the new version of this (which also had very good stories, iirc) for keeping that line, even though it might not make much sense to people anymore.
I like the opening of the new Hawaii 5-O too, they kept the great song (who wouldn’t really?) and altogether the opening is very much an homage to the original.

I loved these shows that were different each week. TZ, OL, One Step Beyond. I hated series shows like Star Trek as you knew the stars would survive to the next episode.
Each show being different meant the scripts could be more deep and you did not know how it would end.
Same for detective shows. Loved Hitchcock and the rip off of it on another channel.

The Sci-Fi Channel reran “Science Fiction Theater” in the mid-1990s, late at night. I taped most of them. More ‘science’ than ‘sci-fi’ at times, but it had a great 1950s feel to it. Loved the little openings with Truman Bradley, usually showing off some scientific gizmo.
If it were ever officially released on dvd, I’d buy it in a heartbeat. A lot of old Ziv shows have actually come out on dvd of late... “Highway Patrol,” “Sea Hunt,” “Ripcord,” “West Point Story,” and due shortly, “Harbor Command.”

Never even heard of it!
I was 26 and married, working 18hours a day and didn’t have time for such silly BS.

THE CONTROL VOICE
"There is nothing wrong with your television.
Do not attempt to adjust the picture.
We are now in control of the transmission.
We control the horizontal and the vertical.
We can deluge you with a thousands channels,
or expand one single image to crystal clarity and beyond.
We can shape your vision to anything our imagination can conceive.
For the next hour, we will control all that you see and hear."

It used to scare the bejeepers out of me! Especially that one episode, “The Zanti Outcasts’’. Little ant-like aliens coming out of a space ship. Like most Outer Limits episodes I was watching that one from behind the couch.
