Wayne Green passed away this morning in a peaceful, painless transition from this life on Earth. An eternal optimist, and one who loved to share his neverending zest for life, he was a friend to many and will be missed greatly. Wayne was not afraid of dying and was very much ready to embark on his next great adventure to the afterlife.

Noted amateur radio operator and publisher, Wayne Green, passed away (Silent Key) on September 13, 2013. Agree, disagree or whatever, he was a hoot to read and follow and had many, many good ideas. I just wanted to pass this on to the amateur and general radio community on his passing.

Some loved him... some hated him... but everyone enjoyed him. He will be missed.

Yeah, I’m a bit dubious on cold fusion and disagreed with him about faking the Moon Landing but most of the other stuff I agreed with him on. He had some good ideas. I was hoping he’d make it to 100.

I attended a presentation by him at a Ham Convention 20+ years ago. His talk impressed me greatly. I bought multiple music CDs from his “Adventures In Music” sampler operation.
Yes, he was a happy icon breaker and irascible in approach. A man who lived the axiom of “Illegitimi non carborundum”, “Don’t let the bastards grind you down!”

He was very brave and outspoken too. I admire him for that too. Here is one of his quick takes on Social Security before he passed on:
Why the Niggardly Social Security Payments?
Thats simple. Because Congress lied and cheated us, thats why.
When the Social Security system was set up Congress promised the taxes taken out of our paychecks would be invested in the stock market, thereby helping grow the economy and, by reinvesting the yearly stock dividends, growing the invested funds.
That didnt last long. When Congresss spending need to be covered, they quietly spent the Social Security funds. So, whats the difference? Well, in countries like Chile, where theyve done as our Congress promised, their Social Security payments are ten times ours! Indeed, in Every Man A Millionaire it explains that with the system promised us anyone making a minimum wage all their working life would end up with a million dollar Social Security fund.
Those forty-five years of re-invested dividends plus inflation can really mount up. Just with inflation, every dollar Congress stole from my fund in 1950 would be about $50 today. Plus, sixty years of re-invested dividends.

I never met the man in person but decades of his editorials entertained, informed, and,at times, infuriated me.Plus his magazines were filled with articles of good ,useful info and not just on the magazine’s main topic.Wayne was one of the first to publish useful computer magazines for ordinary users.Wayne Green wasn’t afraid to point out the faults and dirty dealings of any organization.
He was someone who did his best to make the world a better place. He wanted his readers to THINK, and ACT.
Amateur radio is better for W2NSD having been involved.
Wayne was also a WW2 submarine veteran of action in the Pacific.

I think Wayne made statements just to watch certain heads explode. :-)
