Re-education at George Mason
Jewish World Review ^ | August 28 | Dr. Walter E Williams

Posted on 08/28/2013 10:16:44 AM PDT by Idaho_Cowboy

This week begins my 34th year serving on George Mason University's distinguished economics faculty. You might imagine my surprise when I received a letter from its Office of Equity and Diversity Services notifying me that I was required to "complete the in-person Equal Opportunity and Prevention of Sexual Harassment Policies and Procedures training." This is a leftist agenda for indoctrination, thought control and free speech suppression to which I shall refuse to submit. Let's look at it.

Ideas such as equity and equal opportunity, while having high emotional value, are vacuous analytical concepts. For example, I've asked students whether they plan to give every employer an equal opportunity to hire them when they graduate. To a person, they always answer no. If they aren't going to give every employer an equal opportunity to hire them, what's fair about forcing employers to give them an equal opportunity to be hired?

Reminds me when my niece was in university and required to take a course on how to deal with the handicapped as part of her ed. degree.

She lost a leg to cancer when she was 9.

And the class was held on the second floor of the ed. building - which had no elevators.

She was not shy about educating the educator as I’m sure the good doctor will be likewise vocal.

“...Equal Opportunity and Prevention of Sexual Harassment Policies and Procedures training”...”This is leftist indoctrination, thought control and free speech suppression to which I shall refuse to submit....”

Bravo! Of course Dr. Williams being Black and tenured can probably get away with refusing the training while others of us would be shown the door. Still, Walter Williams is just about as good a fella as one can find.

quite often, 100% compliance is tied to government funding of some program or government cheese for the cafeteria that the school may partake.

Transfer to Hillsdale, Doc !

That figures. Many activist care far more about the cause then the people the cause is supposed to help.

My choices were confined to good-looking black women. You say, "Williams, that kind of discrimination doesn't harm anyone!" Nonsense! When I married Mrs. Williams, other women were harmed by having a reduced opportunity set.

OK, I will admit to laughing out loud at work on that one. Williams cracks me up. I loathe Diversity training classes with every fiber of my being but I'd pay money - lots of it - to be at a session to watch Williams eating some sanctimonious trainer alive.

George Mason's Office of Equity and Diversity Services has far more challenging equity and diversity work than worrying about the re-education of Professor Williams. They must know that courts have long held that gross racial disparities are probative of a pattern and practice of discrimination. The most notable gross racial disparity on campus, and hence probative of discrimination, can be found on GMU's fabulous men's basketball team. Blacks are less than 9 percent of student enrollment but are 85 percent of our varsity basketball team and dominate its starting five.

Heh heh. Let the diversity/pervisity educrats solve this racial imbalance on the basketball courts first. Then I'll listen to what they have to say.

The sad irony is that the people circulating this form do not believe in either racial diversity or preventing sexual harassment.

Sadly, the equal opportunity argument could easily be used to justify polygamy. There aren’t enough well off single men to marry - let the girls share the well-off men who are already married!

As always, Williams is a voice for truth & common sense. I had the great pleasure of hearing him speak in person, at a local University, a few years ago, and really enjoyed his dry sense of humor as he destroyed fallacious arguments.

The egalitarian/collectivist attack on our institutions has never been driven by reason; never based on defensible premises. (See Compassion Or Compulsion?)

It sounds like your niece has persevered very well through her personal adversity. If I were in her circumstances, I’d have been tempted to take off my prosthesis and hop around that administrator’s office to give him/her the thrashing they so richly deserved for being educated beyond their intelligence.

The first model I can see for polyandry is two gay men marrying a woman. They get married for the legal benefits / health insurance, the woman’s children belong to them, they can raise them as they see fit, and give the kids to her on weekends they want free.
Another model for polyandry would be the cases of two lesbians and two gay men joining as a parenting unit to make kids and formalize financial arrangements, while still being homosexual.
