How much do you know about religion?
Pew Research ^ | Pew Research

Posted on 08/25/2013 7:14:22 PM PDT by Kip Russell

And how do you compare with the average American? Here's your chance to find out.

Take our short, 15-question quiz, and see how you do in comparison with 3,412 randomly sampled adults who were asked these and other questions in the U.S. Religious Knowledge Survey. This national poll was conducted by the Pew Research Center’s Forum on Religion & Public Life from May 19 through June 6, 2010, on landlines and cell phones, in English and Spanish.

When you finish the quiz, you will be able to compare your knowledge of religion with participants in the national telephone poll. You can see how you compare with the overall population as well as with people of various religious traditions, people who attend worship services frequently or less often, men and women, and college graduates as well as those who did not attend college.

For a full analysis of the findings of the U.S. Religious Knowledge Survey, read the full report.

I don't think the test is that hard, but just for the record I scored 15 out of 15, better than 99% of the public.

How did you do?

You answered 15 out of 15 questions correctly for a score of 100%.

Not exactly a challenge.

Good grief. You’d have to be brain dead not to get at least 14 (one question seems deliberately tricky).

A senseless quiz, I got them all correct but it has little meaning or usefulness.

15 of 15. Kind of sad most Americans are that ignorant.

I got 15 out of 15 too. I did sort of guess at the last one. I knew it wasn’t Billy Graham so I picked the name which sounded more familiar tho I really didn’t know who he was.

Not exactly a challenge.

Well, it seems to be one for many Americans...the average score was only 50%, not much better than random guessing.

The only question that even made me hesitate was #15, about the First Great Awakening...I had to think about that one for a moment. Only 11% of respondents got that one correct.

Good grief. You’d have to be brain dead not to get at least 14

Only 3% of respondents did that well.

I disagree, in that the fact that the average American only gets a score of 50% demonstrates a profound lack of knowledge on the subject on the part of the public at large.

100%. I was a little hesitant about reading the bible as literature in public school. It was easy but most of it I learned as an adult.

Perfect score - a ridiculously easy test. Isn't it amazing, though, that only 11% got the last question right? Actually, not amazing at all, but a telling commentary on the state of our educational system in this day and age.

Eleventh grade English - Jonathan Edwards "Sinners In The Hands Of An Angry God!" I remember it well - we also got Cotton Mather. I wonder how many growing up now have even heard of him.

Easy test. I have a feeling FReepers will do well, even on questions about non-Christian religions.

I bet “the golden rule” got quite a few who didn’t know the 10 commandments. I also bet a lot answered Billy Graham for the last one.
