What drugs were popular with Russians in the late 50’s?
To: lowbridge
If it wasn’t 1959, I’d say they were trying to escape bath salts...
So I’ll go with “Aliens”...

So?....They were missing for a month, yet the author states the footprints were of bare feet? Huh? What footprints in snow would last a month?

More from wiki:
12-year-old Yury Kuntsevich, who would later become head of the Yekaterinburg-based Dyatlov Foundation (see below), attended five of the hikers’ funerals and recalls their skin had a “deep brown tan”.[2]
Some of the hikers’ clothing (2 pants and sweater) were found to be highly radioactive.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dyatlov_Pass_incident
with some info suggesting military involvement?
To: lowbridge
I saw a documentary about this and I remember the key details were:
1. The bodies were radioactive
2. Official files with strict handling SOP’s were clearly tampered with
One theory is that they accidentally ran across a weapons research site and that the nature of the research was so sensitive that the research authority disposed of the whole group.
But that’s just one of several theories.
