CAIRO (AP) - Egyptian authorities are considering disbanding the Muslim Brotherhood group, a government spokesman said Saturday, once again outlawing a group that held the pinnacle of government power just more than a month earlier.

The announcement comes after security forces broke up two sit-in protests this week by those calling for the reinstatement of President Mohammed Morsi, a Brotherhood leader deposed in a July 3 coup. The clashes killed more than 600 people that day and sparked protests and violence that killed 173 people Friday alone.

Cabinet spokesman Sherif Shawki said that Prime Minister Hazem el-Beblawi, who leads the military-backed government, assigned the Ministry of Social Solidarity to study the legal possibilities of dissolving the group. He didn't elaborate.

The Muslim Brotherhood group, founded in 1928, came to power a year ago when its Morsi was elected in the country's first free presidential elections. The election came after the overthrow of autocrat Hosni Mubarak in a popular uprising in 2011...

Dissolving the group? Good luck with that.

Creating a legal framework wherein Government Establishments of Religion are prohibited, OTOH, that might not be a bad idea...

"Egyptian authorities are considering disbanding the Muslim Brotherhood group"

Now that would work.

It’s how that part of the world has governed for thousands of years. Your opponents are to be killed or enslaved.

A friend of mine from Texas explained it all to me:

“Here in west Texas I have rattlesnakes on my place, living among us. I have killed a rattlesnake on the front porch. I have killed a rattlesnake on the back porch. I have killed rattlesnakes in the barn, in the shop and on the driveway. In fact, I kill every rattlesnake I encounter.

I kill rattlesnakes because I know a rattlesnake will bite me and inject me with poison. I don’t stop to wonder why a rattlesnake will bite me - I know. It will bite me because it's a rattlesnake and that's what rattle- snakes do. I don’t try to reason with a rattlesnake…I just kill it. I don’t try to get to know the rattlesnake better so I can find a way to live with the rattlesnakes and convince them not to bite me…I just kill them. I don’t quiz a rattlesnake to see it I can find out where the other snakes are, because (a) it won’t tell me, and (b) I already know they live on my place. So, I just kill the rattlesnake and move on to the next one.

I don’t look for ways I might be able to change the rattlesnake to a non-poisonous rat snake...I just kill it. Oh, and on occasion, I accidentally kill a rat snake because I thought it was a rattlesnake at the time. Also, I know, for every rattlesnake I kill, two more are lurking out there in the brush. In my lifetime I will never be able to rid my place of rattlesnakes.

Do I fear them? No! Do I respect what they can do to me? Yes! And because of that respect, I give them the fair justice they deserve...I kill them.”

Maybe as a country we should start giving more thought to the fact that these jihadists' are just being like rattlesnakes, and act accordingly!

I wonder if the government is trying to figure out how to do this now?

Great idea! Then maybe the US Congress will consider outlaw Presidents and Admins who *support* the Muslim Brotherhood.

I object to your comparison of rattlesnakes to jihadis. Rattlesnakes kill rats and mice. Jihadis are 100% no good.

America would never allow a political party to exist that shares the principles of the Muslim Brotherhood, including promoting the killing of Christians, the burning of Christian churches, the stoning of disobedient women, and the murder of homosexuals.

So why shouldn’t we support the Egyptian government when it also wants to ban such a political party?

[So why shouldn’t we support the Egyptian government when it also wants to ban such a political party?]

Banning a political party is sort of antithetical to our 1st amendment's American ideals.

Prohibiting the establishment of religious dogma in government, OTOH, is as American as apple pie.

I hope Eqypt reforms itself upon the principled message that religious concoctions such as Islamic Sharia Law will NEVER again be allowed to use government powers to assume dominion over free and equal sovereign Eqyptian individuals.

Rattlesnakes give fair warning — Jihadists are the Muslim equivalent of bubonic plague.

America would never allow a political party to exist that shares the principles of the Muslim Brotherhood, including promoting the killing of Christians, the burning of Christian churches, the stoning of disobedient women, and the murder of homosexuals.

The KKK is legal in America and is not prohibited from fielding candidates. They won't gain traction because we know what they are and we know what they are because they're out in the open.

The muslim brotherhood is a multinational political movement that the people of Egypt put into power in the first place.

As John Bolton points out, Morsi wasn't thrown out for being an extremist, he was thrown out for failing to deal with economic issues. Given a chance, the Egyptian people will turn right around and elect someone ideologically identical to Morsi as long as he speaks with a moderate tongue and deals with the internal economic issues. (I'm guessing Elbaradei will reappear if things settle down)

Personally I think talk of outlawing the MB is an act of desperation as the winds begin to shift.
