As the [Japanese] government looks to keep its unprecedented stimulus on track, tensions between Tokyo and rival Beijing are heating up in the Pacific.
Is the Pacific rivalry setting up the perfect storm for defense contractors in traditionally pacifist post-World War II Japan?
Japan and China have rolled out the big guns recently -- or big ships, to be precise. The dispute between the two countries over the Senkaku Island chain has inflamed tensions between the governments and citizenries, resulting in an economic backlash. Auto giant Toyota has certainly felt the effects, with its sales falling 3.5% year over year in China's market in July. The drop has forced Toyota behind European and American rivals in the world's largest auto market, and it has leading Japanese exporters and their investors worried about what the future in China holds.
The two nations have responded to the growing rift by unveiling massive warships, something that's done nothing to repair relations, but has made things interesting for the defense industry. After China unveiled its first aircraft carrier earlier in the year, Japan launched its own giant helicopter carrier this month -- the largest warship in the Japanese fleet since World War II.

China's new/old Russian aircraft carrier
Japan’s “helo carrier” can carry a few Marine F-35’s I bet
Climb Mount Nititaka or something like that.
The code message to attack Pearl Harbor?
I think they need to be able to defend themselves from China is all.
It would be interesting for Japan to build another Yamato type Battleship complete with 18 inch guns.
I think I read a few years back that there is no place in the world now that could forge the battleship armor they used in WWII.
Something like that, but I am sure it will not be Pearl Harbor this time. If Odumbo is in power, whose side will he be on?
I can believe that! If we had to go back we are in deep doo doo
I think Obomitable will be on whichever side likes Muslims the best.
Japan, although in many ways as politically dysfunctional as the USA, at least has enough sense to defend itself..something lost on many here...
Here we have a conundrum. I don't think either China or Japan have a touchy, feely love for Islam, but I get your point.
