U.S. researchers reported a breakthrough Thursday in the search for a vaccine for malaria, the mosquito-borne disease that sickens millions worldwide.

More than three dozen volunteers received multiple, intravenous doses of a vaccine produced with a weakened form of the disease, scientists from the National Institutes of Health, the Navy, Army and other organizations reported Thursday.

Though the results were promising, more extensive field testing will be required, the researchers wrote. Nevertheless, the it marks the first time any vaccine trial has shown 100% success in protecting subjects from the mosquito-borne tropical disease, which sickens more than 200 million a year and killed about 660,000 in 2010. …

...and Obama is now trying to tell us that the US is no longer a leader in technology. Why didnt his muslim science leaders find a cure for anything?

I wonder, could those same researchers find a cure for Obama?

I’ve been hearing of a malarial cure since I was a kid in the 1930’s. Every time they think they have one, another, more virulent malaria crops up. I hope to GOD they find one, but I wouldn’t be holding my breath

A rare good news Bring Out Your Dead ping!

Post to me or FReep mail to be on/off the Bring Out Your Dead ping list.

The purpose of the “Bring Out Your Dead” ping list (formerly the “Ebola” ping list) is very early warning of emerging pandemics, as such it has a high false positive rate.

So far the false positive rate is 100%.

At some point we may well have a high mortality pandemic, and likely as not the “Bring Out Your Dead” threads will miss the beginning entirely.

*sigh* Such is life, and death...

It’s called DDT and it’s so good you don’t even get bitten by the mosquito.

Well now, instead of this new fangled pharmaceutical that will probably lead to hundreds of newly sick test subjects, we can just break out some DDT and spray those mosquitoes. Oops, forgot....

If true, it would be wonderful. Hubby is just now recovering from tropika, one of the four malaria types. For now, we'll keep taking our prophylaxis.
