well, the direction of the grain does matter... that being said, his kicks don’t seem to have a lot of snap to them and he’s not targeting through the board. like the last couple of kicks... full extension was at the board, resulting in less power.

only once did I have an issue breaking a board (2 actually) ... and it was due to the grains being crossed

Something is wrong with this kicks I know that much. I know ballet dancers who could break that board with one blow but for some reason he does not have it in him to give the right kick.

Yep. Poor technique. It didn’t help that the guy(s) holding the boards weren’t standing fast, either.

Anyone can break a board with proper technique, they key to which is driving your fist or foot solidly through the point of impact.
