Oh, man. Everyone trying to navigate on the sun is going to have to turn his compass around. Like it isn’t hard enough already - it’s so hot that you can only go there at night. Sheesh.
The sun’s magnetic poles flip every 11 years. It is responsible for the sun spot cycle. At “solar maximum” there are more sun spots because magnetic field lines become increasingly chaotic as the flip approaches. Sun spots occur where field lines intersect and reconnect.
