How do you extinguish the heat when you’re done cooking?

There is nothing cheap about methanol. Cost and weight per BTU is probably higher than most all other choices. Glad they are on sale, but don’t think that is a bargain for preparedness. Its not. No survivalist would ever have that in his bag.

Mmmmmm, “Hobo Drank....”

Stockpiling these would be a good thing to have in case of extended issues with power outages etc...

Is there a way to make your own refills using rubbing alcohol?

To use one of these optimally you should use a caldera cone stove, which maximizes heat delivery to both the bottom and sides of a pot, acts as a windscreen, and conserves both fuel and time.

Though it’s not very available yet, putting a layer of thin sheet aerogel as insulation around the caldera cone would make it very efficient.

I haven't found camping stove any better than one of these when it comes to initial cost, efficiency, long life, reliability, economy, ease of use, availability of fuel, weight, and size.

Thanks for the info...And don't let these naysayers beat you down. Most of them are well off and don't have a clue what it means to be poor. I don think they mean well, and are techincally rigt often. If all you have is .99 this is a great plan.

I hate to think, and I see it all the time especially with firearms, that "gear snobbery" would convince someone that NOTHING is better than SOMETHING. Most can't afford the best, so get what you can, and train, trian, train! Upgrade later if there is time or money.

Peace.

I have a collection of at least 15 backpacking stoves including military models, of course they cover all the fuels and cartridges, including passive wood burning and fan assisted wood burning (ZZ Stoves for example).

One way I justify the convenience and expense (the luxury) of models like the propane cartridge type, or this chafing fuel type (interestingly, the type I don’t own yet), is for situations where I might be sick or injured, during a time of enduring the flu, or food poisoning, or a bout with bad water, or an injury, in that situation I would need simplicity in cooking, or boiling water.

In some situations keeping odors to a minimum might be a consideration.

What is the shelf life of this product?

Build yourself a rocket stove, then use all the free fuel around you.

Don’t let the naysayers get you down. I have a variety of stoves for survial use and I bought up 10 of these last year for $1.00 each at Dollar Tree.

Used a couple of them to make bacon and eggs and a few other meals to test them out. Yes, as some others say there are better (often more costly) solutions, but I find these easy to use and self contained. You can refill with denatured alchol. Don’t use regular rubbibg alchol.

Explore some of the other suggestions by some of the others if you are making a survival or emergency prep. Having more than one solution is always a good idea.
