Poor treatment of Members by the NRA

Posted on 07/20/2013 7:24:25 AM PDT by CPONav

Since I joined the NRA, I seem to have become a magnet for junk mail, phone calls and unwanted products in the mail. I have had it with them. Here is my third letter to them.

This is my third email to the NRA staff and I am tired of being polite. Since I joined the NRA in January of 2013, I have been hounded with unsolicited email, mail, and phone calls regarding everything from gun rights to mail order brides and I am absolutely sick of it. I joined the NRA as a gun owner and enthusiast, a taxpayer concerned about my 2nd Amendment rights, and as a concerned citizen regarding education of firearms. I did not join the NRA to have unsolicited phone surveys on Saturday morning, emails selling Viagra, insurance, and women, or to receive products in the mail that I did not order and demanding payment by a company endorsed by the NRA. My first email regarding this issue went unanswered. My second email regarding this was answered with a "we will remove you from the contact list". The damage has been done, my email address, home address, and phone number have already been released to agencies that will likely further pass this information around in a never ending data trade off. I find this behavior and business practice reprehensible from an organization that claims to be working for its members. As of now, July 20, 2013, remove me forever from any and all of your data bases. Cancel my membership. Erase my existence from your organization completely. Wayne Lapierre, you should be ashamed of your organization and yourself for allowing this to happen.

Is anyone else tired of this crap? Dues paying members' information should never be traded on the internet and that is exactly what the NRA does.

I’ve been an NRA member since 1989 and have probably received a couple tons of junk mail from them in that time. I keep hoping that they’ll join the 21st century and switch to spam, but they’re not exactly a cutting edge organization.

It’s part of their modus operandi and has been for a while. One wonders how much money they waste with all their junk mailings.

There is a simple solution. The next time you receive junk mail from them and it includes a remittance envelope, stuff all they sent you into that remittance envelope and send it back to them at their cost with a note informing them you will be returning to them everything they send you in the same manner in the future. I did that years ago and have not received a single piece of Junk mail since.

I don’t get any significant snail mail from them but I have gotten myriads of legislative alerts and discount offers on this or that. I unsubscribed from everything except for the alerts and my inbox has quieted down substantially.

So far, I have not had that experience. I believe the NRA doesn't know about the activities of mag ad sponsors. They just sell the space.

Some of the product merchandisers will attempt to get you on the hook, so it's best not to respond to any offers too good to be true. If you are going to respond, look for the real agenda.

Even though I'm not a member, I'm having more problems with crap from the AARP.

I think you might be blaming the NRA for things that have nothing to do with them.

I can see them sending out gun rights related mail, but I don’t think they sell their mailing list to others.

Others may have gotten your address/phone number other ways.

But all that is easily avoidable - it’s easy enough to throw out junk mail. As for phone calls — sign up for caller ID and get yourself an actual physical answering machine (not central voice mail). This will allow you to monitor your phone calls, not pick up junk calls, but not miss legitimate calls, as you can hear them leaving the message on your answering machine and can pick up the phone, if you want to talk to the caller.

Instead of being upset, SOLVE the problem.

And don’t blame the NRA.

Expect the NRA, and all other orgaization the socialists hate, to be infiltrrated to the gills with enemy action.

I tried an experiment today with one of our shooter’s groups. It was.. instructive:

Chill out. You can go to your profile and select to opt out. But jeez, if you order ANYTHING online you get on email lists. If you have EMAIL you get spammed.

Just delete the spam and trash the junk mail. Ain’t no big deal.

Junk mail keeps the post office in business. Spam keeps your psychiatrist in business.

I told them I would donate to them on an annual basis, if I could afford it, and not to waste their money on postage. sending me ads. They’ve been pretty good about it too, to me, anyway. They send me a renewal notice every once in awhile, and thats about it. My wife is also a member, and she didn’t tell them to limit the mail, and she gets quite a bit.

I just send the junk back without a letter. If the offender is particularly egregious, a rock is included.

At least the NRA is out there trying to protect your 2nd ammendment rights. Junk mail is a daily burden. The NRA doesn’t send out any more of it than any other company. I don’t care if they send me something every day in the mail. I’m glad everytime I hear from the NRA. I love having that sticker on my car. I have not heard that they sell your info to the internet.

Wayne LaPierre is out there on TV taking the heat for you every week. How many of us would go on TV and defend our gun rights to the left wing loons everyday? Would you be happier if the NRA just disbanded and gun confiscation began? There’s a war going on out there quit crying about junk mail. Jeeez!

"..It’s part of their modus operandi and has been for a while. One wonders how much money they waste with all their junk mailings.."

I used to be a member. I couldn't stomach their "business practices". Have ya ever been to their main offices in Va? I have. Used to live a few miles from it. They're living pretty high on the hog on all our donations. If that wasn't enough the last "Friends of the NRA" gathering was enough to cap it off. A coupla "young hotties" and several "mousse heads" worked the crowd for extra donations. Friggin sickening. There's more efficient 2nd amendment associations. Locally GRNC.

Personally, I did my time in a booth at the gun shows, the NRA convention in Charlotte, yadda, yadda. The last 12 years or so have been spent trying to positively influence those I come in contact with and standing watch over my "3 foot perimeter".

Please note Post 9.

I think this needs a modified subject title.

The NRA is on our side. Strongly.

It’s a bit OT, but I gave Gun Owners of America my email and they have been very minimal and to the point with their mailings. Kinda impressed with their usage of the medium, especially in contrast to some other organizations out there. Coming from one who tends to keep an almost empty inbox.
