Maybe lawmakers will mandate a ‘roll over and play dead’ law...punishable by incarceration or fine.

They believe they can de program the instinct for self-preservation and deprive individuals of their right to self-defense? We’ll see.

“You can have power over people as long as you don’t take everything away from them. But when you’ve robbed a man of everything, he’s no longer in you power.”

Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn ... And HE ought to know.

This idea makes about as much sense as wetting your pants when confronted, another liberal idea BTW.

The concept made more sense in a society where most weapons were used in hand to hand combat.

Not so much with firearms, where running away just means you get shot in the back.

The problem with SYG, or one of them, is that many killings are not perpetrator attacking innocent person who defends himself, the traditional conservative meme.

Many killings arise from disputes where both parties are to a considerable extent at fault, as anybody who has ever seen a bar brawl erupt and escalate can attest.

When someone would have been charged with assault and battery, or attempted murder, based on the situation had the other guy lived; do we really want him to just walk away if he succeeds in killing his opponent?

The thing is that by running away, you expose yourself even more to danger.

It’s like training for ambushes. Instinctively, people back away from danger. If you start backing away in an ambush, you’re dead. The instinct is completely wrong.

The best response to an ambush is to attach into the ambush. It’s not a sure thing, but your chances of coming out of it alive increase that way.

Yes it does assume guilt, especially if the perp is black and the victim is a white person attempting to protect himself.
In this country, the law of race relations is very simple. The black is always innocent, noble, and good, and the white is always guilty, racist and evil.

They are insisting that the law be amended to make it mandatory for victims of crime to run away.

The problem with this is that it's easy for critics to come up with escape options after the fact and criticize the user of force for not thinking of them.

SYG laws are simply intended to remove some of the Monday-morning quarterbacking that goes on after someone engages in self defense. It's easy for some moron to say, after the fact, "why didn't he roll under his car and out the other side, and then jump on top of that van over there and slide down the windshield, and then hop that fence over there? He could have gotten away from his assailant, and instead he murdered him in cold blood!"

So if this is what is wanted then it proves Trayvon was wrong. He had the chance to retreat and instead attacked.

And most ambushes are designed so that if you run, you’ll just die tired. The ambusher doesn’t want a confrontation.

Just to add a critical & frequently missed point to your excellent points, SYG is also Tort reform. Or, repealing it is scumbag attorneys jackpot. Prior to SYG, a completely innocent victim who defended themselves was still liable civilly. SYG simply protects such from legal persecution from unscrupulous attorneys. Like the ones who went after Z.

How can you tell when you’re one punch or head pound away from grey matter spilling on the ground?

What about the modern MSM’s responsibility to commit seppuku to atone for their stupidity, ignorance, and general idiocy?

The fifth-column media are traitors. They should be tried, convicted, and then hanged.

You are supposed to turn and burrow down in the ground to escape - much like an armadillo.

Sorry, evolution has taken human beings in a much different direction. Since most human beings are sadly lacking in much of anything in the way of defensive weapons (claws, teeth of adequate sharpness or size, any kind of quills or stingers laden with poisons), they were given the wit to construct various defenses, extending and compounding the power to swing arms or legs.

First simple clubs, then sharpened stones, then projectiles that could be cast from something of a distance. Various forms of firearms are but a further progression of this capability to cast projectiles, and refinement over the eons and centuries of gradually growing technologies have given us some mighty fine, compact, and effective means of self defense.

People, being people, will find all kinds of new and ingenious ways to circumvent and pervert the use of these self-defenses, moving from simple defense to various degrees of assault and domination. Self-defense is the first order of survival for ANY species, but to move from that to assault requires a whole new set of rules and injunctions, and a set of sanctions to prevent the ABUSE of the doctrine of self-defense.

When retreat is not possible, only one of two outcomes can happen - surrender and capitulation, or victory and domination. Of course, in a particularly vicious confrontation, “victory” is last man standing, and that only because the collapse is slower than anybody else.

That's what they have in the UK, you go to jail defending yourself.

Boils down to criminal protection.

Gimme your wallet & retreat or go to jail! ....nuts.

What kind of world do we live in when a gangsta cannot give a beat down to some creepy ass cracka without fear of getting shot?

Clearly Zimmerman should have let Martin pound away. Martin would have gotten tired eventually. Sure, Zimmerman probably would have ended up brain damaged if he lived, but he could count on Obamacare to give him a shot of morphine before pulling the plug.

If they want to keep pushing this, along with saying, GZ was stalking TM...

...then wasn’t it TM who had the responsibility to retreat - and most definitely didn’t?

They want you to believe that if you turn and run, even if you throw your valuables at their feet, that the criminals will just let you go. Sure. It’s most likely that you will either be shot in the back as you “retreat” or you will be chased down and beaten to death.

Animals all. The only move I would be interested in is drawing a sight on their center mass and kill them; those who are fast enough to retreat might survive depending on the circumstances.
