A Cambridge University educated research scientist is so desperate to live the life of a wheelchair-bound person she is prepared to pay a doctor help her become disabled.
Since childhood, Chloe Jennings-White has made several attempts at injuring herself so she can finally climb into her own wheelchair.
In 2010 she even found a doctor overseas willing to help her become disabled by cutting her sciatic and femoral nerves, but she could not afford the £16,000 costs.

All of the comments that I read, people were shocked, stunned, and thinking that any doctor who would do this is wrong, wrong, wrong. She needs help not surgery.
I agree, it would be insane! The comments were a proper reaction, in my opinion.
Why is this story reacted to properly but stories of the people (even children) getting sex reassignment operations, causes many people to cheer and support the 'brave' decision of that person?
Wouldn't both be mental illness? Wouldn't they also be of the similar variety of mental illness? What am I missing? I don't understand.
Sick woman. She is already mentally disabled.
There really is no difference in the mental illness of this woman and the mental illness of people who want to change their gender. Actually those who want same sex partners are also mentally ill except not to this extent.
Homosexuality used to be recognized as a mental illness, but I suppose enough Psychiatrists were queer to make a change.

You are missing nothing, except that there is a profound lack of reason and understanding among those who support treating the symptoms and ignoring the cause(s). Such lack of reason leads to moral contradictions like this.
Speaking as a woman who has been disabled by birth; I cannot even imagine why anyone in their right mind would want to be disabled. I have news for the pathetic little idiot! It is no picnic.
On a side note, I recently read that there's a high percentage of some degree of autism in transsexuals.

When I read the truncated title of the article before reading it, a couple of ‘fill in the blank’ scenarios came to mind, including- “cut my p**** of so I can live as a woman.”
This person is truly sick in the head — there’s no glamour or “virtue” in a profound disability, and you have to wonder if the lure of public care and conditioning to socialized medicine plays a part.

Here are three articles on people who want things amputated. About 20 years ago a man in my county bought a chainsaw, got alcohol and bandages and applied a tourniquet to his leg…called 911, then chopped his leg off.
It’s not common, but it’s not uncommon, either.
There was a time and day when basket cases like this were institutionalized for their own safety. Now we "celebrate" their "brave decisions" to have unnecessary, deleterious surgery on the public dime. Blech.
She has some kind of mental disability, as do sex-change people (unless genetically they really are wrong).
Why doesn’t she just pretend she’s disabled? Still sick, but not as.

That’s what it is, isn’t it? A moral contradiction. We live in a crazy world now and I have a hard time understanding it all.
I think the stereotypical male homo is proof positive something is mental about these people.
My husband’s friend had an experience with a male homo and a revelation - NO WOMAN ACTS LIKE THIS. If a woman behaved the way they do, you’d think she was nuts. Yet homo men do and we’re supposed to look askance.
