My husband got a new CPAP machine today, "latest technology". Here's the thing and it is stunning. His doctor warned him he MUST use it nightly as it has a chip in it that communicates with insurance/Medicare. If he doesn't use it regularly, his driver's license can be revoked. Anyone familiar with this?
I think your Doctor is telling a big one in hopes of getting him to seriously try the machine enough to get used to it.

My mother has one and I don’t see anything on her machine that would do that.
they all do have some id number
DL revoked for failing to comply with doctor’s orders? Sure why not? The government claims it is ok to revoke DL for child support.
Never give thugs control.
i have one, i use it every night, there is a smart card in it that monitors my usage. (for the purpose of treatment)
my doctor read it once a year to see if i need to have the cpap pressure increased.
They don’t need to do that. They can watch on the cameras they planted all around the room.
So if the patient is in a place with no cell service for a few days the DL gets revoked? Would make it tough to drive home legally.
This is brand new on the market. He has been going to this doctor/clinic for years. There is no way this highly respected doctor would just make it up.
what’s the model? made by Respironics?
I think the settings are initially set by your doctor. After that....?
Wrap the machine in tinfoil just to be on the safe side.
There may be something to do that in the latest machines to prevent a Smart Meter from shutting them down. Lots of data can piggyback on a 60Hz power feed.
Before the NSA started its domestic operations, that was how the FBI and other spooks could access your computer.
Don’t know, he won’t get it until next week. But the doctor did warn him about this new insurance regulation.. We suspect it is a provision in Obamacare.
This is the sort of crap that will drive people away from getting treatment.
Unintended liberal consequences.
heh, i didn’t realize that respironics makes them with wifi now.
“Data logging records basic compliance info or detailed event logging, allowing the sleep physician (or patient) to download and analyse data recorded by the machine to verify treatment effectiveness.” - positive airway pressure wiki
Does your husband hold a CDL, then yes, if diagnosed with sleep apnea, he has to prove effective treatment to pass the medical exam. It’s considered a public safety issue by the DOT.
Can’t blame this one on Zero though, it has been coming down the line for the last 10 years.
Wow!
I know that the older models do record all your data. Didn’t know the new ones were sending reports to the government!
I guess that technology does exist though. For years they have used a type of contractions monitor that alerted doctors if their homebound/bed rest patients were going into premature labor.
