In my first post, I mentioned that I grew up in a staunchly liberal family in the northeast reading comic books. I thought of the police as comic book superheroes that kept me safe and secure under the rule of law. Since we had these superheroes enforcing the rule of law, we were safe and secure with no need to have a gun.
As an adult, my dad was getting older and he was living alone. Like many retired adults today, he was living on a fixed income and he was having trouble making ends meet; so, I moved in with him to assist him and make sure that he was alright.
We live in a home that my father helped his grandfather build. When they built our house, the neighborhood was a nice area. Now, it is a ghetto. Like many similar neighborhoods around the nation in the 20th century it succumbed to a populace that believes that society owes them.
These people do not feel shame in taking other people’s money or property because they feel entitled to do so. They are users of other people and other people’s money and property. Therefore, they do not see a problem with resorting to violence when they are not given what they believe they are entitled to take.
There is an empty lot a short distance up the road from our home. Late one night, a gun battle erupted in that lot. I do not know who was shooting or why they were shooting.
The police were urgently summoned via 9-1-1, but the unthinkable happened- the police did not appear for nearly 40 minutes. And then only one police officer showed up initially. Eventually, more police officers did show up, but the gun battle had only lasted a few minutes.
The police searched the vacant lot to make sure that the criminals were gone; however, they missed an important piece of evidence in their search of the property- a dead body!
My dad and I were not harmed and neither were our neighbors (Thank God!). Nevertheless, I was left with some daunting questions that challenged my belief that the police were superheroes.

I too was raised in a wonderful place I thought was without guns.
Now those men are gone and the Ghetto is springing up.

Sounds like a horror novel, doesn’t it?! I suppose I could throw in a few zombies to liven the story up!
I grew up just outside of Boston.
The Mafia was better at keeping the peace than the police were. The Mafia didn’t like bad stuff to go down in their neighborhoods. People who did bad things in a mobster’s neighborhood would often disappear.
Those days are gone. It’s every man for himself, now.
Over the years the motto of the police force has changed from "To Protect and to Serve" to "Officer Safety Comes First".
Big-city police generally will NOT come to the scene of a gun battle until the shooting is all over, and the participants have departed. They will come to take pictures and draw chalk marks. The only exception is if one of their own is down.
Thank you. I am sorry to hear that. With the nanny-welfare state, that situation will become more and more common unfortunately.
The county here built an upscale neighborhood next door thinking that would improve the community; however, it did not take the ghetto criminals long to figure out that the real money was in the new upscale neighborhood.
So much for the liberal notion of community improvement!
The neighborhood would be the residence of the Mafia guys' families and friends. They wanted to keep their own loved ones safe. Plus being the protectors of the neighborhood would create good-will from the other residents, and a reluctance to cooperate with police.
Isn’t that always the way. Liberal with other people’s loves until they become involved in true life. I Lived in NYC almost all my life as “Lib”. I moved away and now live in the boonies. It still takes the law minimum of a half hour to respond. I use the ‘stand your ground law’. I’d rather be judged by 12 and not carried by 6.
It will grow worse for white people remaining in black areas in Dem-controlled cities and states. When budgets grow tight, the first things to be cut back are police and fire depts. And anybody daring to protect himself will get the Zimmerman treatment.

I heard about the Mafia up there in New England too. It is sad when you have to depend upon criminals to protect you from criminals.

The progressive (more properly termed Regressives)political machine is bent on making every city outside of Washington, DC just like Chicago and Detroit.
So, I would have to agree with your statement. The regressives want everyone to depend utterly upon the police to keep them safe even though that does not work.
When your life depends on a matter of seconds, the police are only minutes away! The second amendment has a very definitive purpose.
We started locking the door in the daytime from then on. My husband had several firearms but they were for sport - we didn't think of them as self defense and those weapons were more suited for a man.
In 1989, I bought a weapon for me. In 2011/2012, I bought more firearms for me and I bought more ammo..
Looking at that progression over time, what will the next progression be? In earlier years, I would have never thought I might actually need what I have now. How bad is it going to get?
