The scenario had been carefully planned: A terrorist group prepared to hurt vast numbers of people around Boston would leave backpacks filled with explosives at Faneuil Hall, the Seaport District, and in other towns, spreading waves of panic and fear. Detectives would have to catch the culprits.

Months of painstaking planning had gone into the exercise, dubbed “Operation Urban Shield,” meant to train dozens of detectives in the Greater Boston area to work together to thwart a terrorist threat. The hypothetical terrorist group was even given a name: Free America Citizens, a home-grown cadre of militiamen whose logo would be a metal skull wearing an Uncle Sam hat and a furious expression, according to a copy of the plans obtained by the Boston Globe.

As the late Don Adams “Get Smart” would say:

“Missed it by that much”.

Wrong villains - DUH!!!!

I wonder who thought up white patriotic Americans as the villains? Calling Eric Holder - Your white folk are plotting just as you said they would - NOT. Calling Sen. Warren (your Teepee is on fire). Calling John Kerry - They don’t celebrate Christmas on the rivers in Cambodia, schmuck!

Why are they so scared to identify who the most likely potential terrorists are? If they had done what used to be called good honest police work, they may have caught the Tsarnov’s before the plot.

All of it goes to show just how useless all the data mining is in stopping terrorism.

Ah, but it's very useful in other endeavors.

"Why are they so scared to identify who the most likely potential terrorists are?"

LOL...from the article:

"The hypothetical terrorist group was even given a name: Free America Citizens, a home-grown cadre of militiamen whose logo would be a metal skull wearing an Uncle Sam hat and a furious expression, according to a copy of the plans obtained by the Boston Globe."

They either don't know how to, or refuse to reconcile their world view with the reality. And how does a skull wear a furious expression?

And they would go after Marathoners? Wow. Who else but a homo nut job would dream such holywood fantasy?

That's because it was never genuinely designed for finding terrorists, it was designed to control the domestic home front all along.

You, regular Joe Public, have always been the target of the surveillance grid.

The whole 'terrorism' meme was created to get the public to go along while they constructed the grid 'for your safety.'

It’s almost as if the enemy knew the plans in advance and decided to jam them with reality.

Sayyyyy, didn’t the same thing happen in Newtown? Wasn’t there a major drill scheduled for a mere 20 miles away on the same day?

If they had named the real enemy, obama would have said they acted stupidly and holder would have prosecuted them for a hate crime.

Anyone wanting on or off this list...well, you know.

The response is clear - send huge teams of SWAT members wandering through local neighborhood streets with armored vehicles, rousting peaceful folks out of their homes and hassling them to show “toughness.”

No warrants necessary, of course.

It’s a great deal easier than real police work, and a great deal more visible, too - which generates votes among the ignorant masses.

Long article with many quotes, yet not one word about the huge glaring irony that’s right at the center of the story.

Pretty good comment in the comments section:

***So glad I’m not the only one who noticed that the bad guys had to be American militia, not Islamic terrorists. Probably explains why it took law enforcement so long to identify the men they needed to find in the crowds: didn’t look enough like Tim McVeigh. As long as the government is obsessed with political correctness, it’s hard to feel confidence that all this training will do any good.***

They’re still wondering why none America’s assorted patriot groups have resorted to violence. They keep waiting for it, watching for it, hoping for it. Meanwhile our real enemies, the Islamic jihadists, are operating unnoticed right under their noses.

Of course, it would be Free America Citizens with an angry Uncle Sam and if the profile were expanded voted against hussein. Not a word about some muzzy middle eastern jihadist. Just like groping teenage girls and grannies at the airport. What a sick upside down world we live in.
