Dogs are great people. Many dogs are much better than many people.

The two-year-old canine named Pui Pui? Isn't that Thai for yuck, no good, do not want?

Another fairly accurate cliché is if people don’t like dogs or babies then watch em
Or if a dog or toddler acts wary of someone then it might be for a reason

What do you say about a guy who applauds the cops shooting a veteran’s tethered dog inside of his own home during a “mistaken” door-busting drug bust?

Pui is fertilizer. It’s a common nickname for kids as well. Everyone here goes by their nickname except in very formal or legal situations.
While the practice is changing, traditionally those names were chosen to avoid the interest of ghosts wandering about looking for kids to occupy and subjugate so they had an unpleasant connotation.
Now western names, especially feminine sounding names for girls, like Stella (my own niece), Gigi, Jennifer, Jenny, Lisa, etc. are in vogue. Some other nicknames I’ve come across recently are Sun, Boss, and Fame.
Also there is a neighborhood kid named Balloon. Yes, he is fat, and no, he does not seem to mind the nickname at all and I’ve never seen another kid tease him about it.

Thank you, what little Thai I learned (from an American in El Segundo, of all places) is rather rusty.
Still, I got the sense of the word, not bad after 35 years. Some day I’m gonna have to actually visit Thailand...

Not bad at all.
Yes, it’s still a good place to visit. If you don’t mind the heat and/or rain, come other than in high season (Nov-Feb). It’s a lot cheaper, less crowded, and more relaxed.

Heat? Humidity? I was raised in Beaufort...
