Sorry, I can't feel sad for them on that one. On their scummy neighbors - yes. I have some friends (conservative on most things) that vote for tax increases when it is for 'schools'. They don't realize that even when we pay more for schools and teachers - that doesn't equate to a better education. Just a high pension for the liberal teachers. Schools are all about liberal indoctrination these days, never about educating. In fact, some of the lower paying states - like Texas - do much better in education than higher paying states. I believe the higher pay and pension keeps in the teachers that are lousy at it.

Well I agree but they actually bought the house new in Antioch, which had already passed the tax to build new schools because the town was growing so fast, so they didn’t personally vote on it. So the realtor/seller sold them on the “temporary” tax for new schools. Personally I wouldn’t have bought it, a 1% tax on a $750K house (that eventually lost half its value when the bubble broke).
