Memorial Day - Unashamed Vanity
My Camera ^ | 5/27/13 | Peter W. Kessler

I was privileged to be able to visit the American Cemetery at Colleville-sur-Mer, Normandy last October.

I arrived very early and, for almost an hour, I was totally alone in the cemetery.

Think of those who gave their lives in what can only be described as Hell on Earth - Omaha Beach - on 6/6/44.

Today, the American Cemetery is one of the most peaceful places on earth.

Each white cross or Star of David represents a family shattered by loss, an empty chair at dinner, a full, productive life denied.

Thank God for sending into our midst individuals who are our guardians and protectors.

Thank you for your post.

Memorial Day - A day for remembrance and gratitude of all our fallen heroes, who gave up all their tomorrows, that we might enjoy all of our todays.

We shall remain forever indebted, to those who shall remain forever young.

"Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.". John 15:13.

Thank you very very much for sharing. The images really provide an opportunity to see what many will never enjoy otherwise. The crosses reminded me of the final scene of “Saving Private Ryan”.

There is no pedestal high enough, there are not enough words to express the gratitude owed so many for their brave service.

They bring freedom to the oppressed, hope to the downtrodden, and give glory to a nation blessed by their bravery and honored by their presence.

God bless and keep all who have lost their lives in nobel pursuits, given their all for the rights of others. Their memory will forever be imprinted in the Golden Hall of Warriors remembered. The pedestal is high and I will forever look up to these heroes who deserve praise without ceasing, and prayers for their eternal rest.

God bless those who have served and are serving . You have my deepest gratitude and undying respect.
