I think your question is extremely fair.
I have wondered that for years.
No need really. Just run a bot for a couple hours via Google. We are all there.
They already have a list. We’re the ones who file tax returns with them every year.
I can’t see what they would use to justify such questions.
I don’t think FR is tax exempt. I know our donations are not deductible.
Durning the clintoon years there was a lawsuit that had it origions in DC. There were trolls and a not so nice individual that went by the name of “esquire”, it was political.
Free Republic is not a for profit commercial enterprise in the sense of a traditional business selling a product or service at a profit for its shareholders. We sell no product or service. We have no clients, customers or employees. We do not accept paid advertising. Free Republic is not affiliated with any political party, group, news source, government agency or anyone else.
Free Republic is not a traditional business. We are a political discussion forum and independent grassroots conservative activist group supported by donations from our readers and participants. When and if our participants decide we are no longer needed or viable, we will close down shop and go away.
Free Republic operates on an approximate $360,000 annual budget (click for breakdown) which includes all equipment costs, bandwidth fees, consulting and labor costs, administrative costs, license fees, insurance, rents, communications costs, office expenses, advertising, travel, professional fees, banking and credit card fees, taxes, etc. Like most labor intensive organizations, the bulk of our costs are personnel related. We have one general manager and webmaster, one systems, programming and computer guru, one programming and management assistant and one bookkeeper/business administrator. The four of us are all members (partners) of the LLC. We own and operate our own servers and our proprietary software was developed and is maintained inhouse.
Free Republic is not a charity or IRS non-profit organization. We do not raise funds for charitable purposes or causes. We raise funds solely to cover our operating costs, labor, and all applicable state and federal income and payroll taxes.
Of course not. Like much of the internet, we are “below the radar”. We are not high profile.
should read “without any cooperation”
There would be no need to ask because people who think the way a majority of us do around here are already known by the government. Most of us probably appear on a number of lists.
One thing we can all be sure of is that the feds, I should say fascists, are monitoring this sight and flagging posts they take exception with. We are dealing with a monster.
I have a feeling they know who we are. I also think they know who all the gun owners nationwide are. At least those who have concealed carry permits.
I recall a threat of legal action or maybe legal action itself against FR relating to the posting of full articles.
The result was that for certain websites, only links or excerpts can be posted - not full articles.
Maybe someone can shed more light on this as I don’t remember the whole story (if I ever even knew the whole story).
I’m sure there is a FEMA camp cot with my name on it. :-)
way back article at the now defunt Muffled Oar blog about DOJ Russo astroturfing unit. Free Republic mentioned as one of those lucky conservative sites receiving anonymous comments on posts critical of the DOJ.

I dunno but I imagine Jim’s answer would be brief and to the point staring with an F and ending with a u.
They probably asked, but what JR would have told them is not printable on this forum.
We are 70 posts in, and you still haven’t asked Jim Thompson?
