I am tired of this comparison and slamming of Nixon. Nixon was a great president (minus China and EPA). His only crime was loyalty to a few errant supporters.
You make a very good point. I agree the comparison does go too far but the analogy is being used to make a point about
Obama’s hoped for fate.
Yeah he may not have been the greatest but he certainly wasn’t among the worst.
Add to his list of sins price controls and he made the decision to finance the welfare state rather than fight it. Nixon ultimately led us to where we are today with massive entitlements and deficit spending gone over the cliff.
Another footnote is that he killed human space exploration in favor of entitlements. Had that not been done, humanity might own the solar system and the resulting economic boom would have been bigger than that brought by computing.
Instead he gave us a permanent welfare class to be a reliable democratic base. He may have doomed this nation in doing so.
I saw the image, thought it had comedic value and posted it without giving it the due process it deserved. I happen to have liked, admired President Nixon and now see myself having acted too impulsively. Giving a second chance I would not have posted it. My message to the Moderator is, if you feel it is inappropriate, disrespectful, by all means delete the post.
Thank you.
The same "great" president who closed the gold window, instituted wage and price controls, gave us the drug war and proposed an employer health insurance mandate, implemented the first affirmative action program and endorsed the equal rights amendment? We don't need anymore "great presidents."
