Cleveland Hero Was A Repeat Domestic Abuser

MAY 8--The Cleveland man credited with helping free female captives from a house of horrors is a convicted felon whose rap sheet includes three separate domestic violence convictions that resulted in prison terms, court records show.

Charles Ramsey, whose 911 call and subsequent TV interviews have made him a microcelebrity, was once a repeat spousal abuser whose marriage ended in divorce following a 2003 felony conviction for battering his wife.

Ramsey, 43, has said that when he heard captive Amanda Berry screaming and trying to escape from neighbor Ariel Castro’s home on Monday, "I figured it’s a domestic violence dispute.” Ramsey has also reportedly said that he went to help Berry because he “was raised to help women in distress.”

At least he did the right thing on this occasion. I think I read initially that another neighbor, a woman, helped him, btw, but she doesn’t speak much English so that’s why we probably haven’t heard much about her.

He did his time, and did the right thing, in a pinch. Good.

the woman doesn’t speak English?

This may be a good thing for Ramsey. I hope he can use it to help himself.

Certainly he did the right thing this time, but would any man have done less?

If he was punished when he did the wrong thing I don’t see any problem with praising him when he does the right thing. That’s the way it’s supposed to work.....right?

There was another ‘man’ helping the girl before this guy claimed the glory for the rescue.....he’s begun telling his story now. Seems he’s the one who actually broke the door so she could get out ...and got her across the street away from the house.

I knew the media would set out to destroy this guy. As soon as I saw a disheveled black man I knew the racist media would run and see if he had a criminal record. Like other people have said, he did the right thing in this case; leave him alone.

America doesn't need heroes. We don't need anyone stepping up to do the right thing. If you see someone acting in a praiseworthy manner, the best thing you can do is knock them down and smear them.

You know, on the whole, I liked the 20th century better.

Don’t care, he did the right thing this time and likely saved lives.

The facts are apparently he wasn’t on the scene until ‘after’ the other guy had already rescued her.....that isn’t a race issue...and it isn’t if he indeed has a record for domestic violence.

Yeah, and if he gets dragged through the mud for that I’ll bet those girls will be the last human beings he ever helps. He better not have any overdue library fines or have ever been late with a child support payment, either.

Who didn’t see this coming, by the media? Yet they ignore 0scumbag’s & Hitlery’s myriad crimes and national treason.

When the conventional wisdom of the *hood* is not to help the police in any way or *snitch*, he did good.

I’d like to think this is the start of something new. [I can hope, can’t I?]

I agree. Even such as these, if they will it, can do good.

Absolutely. Of course I say that as one man who embarked on a one man outreach to challenge Detroit to prove themselves to be better.

I'll never forget the day Doctor Raoul, myself, and I think BillF were protesting the media outside of the Decatur House. We had set up a "truth free zone" of several feet between them and us. They were all bunched up trying to listen at the door to the VIPs inside.

During part of the exchange we had with them, one of them turned to us and stated:

"We decide what the news is."

Wow- that didn’t take long...

And yet 6 years later they still can’t find Obama’s birth certificate or college transcripts.

Well, the Arias trial is all but wrapped up, they need to have another "real life drama" to splatter throughout the airtime to deflect the population form Benghazi.

Just another moving screen on the screen...
