Pat and John Madden do some play-by-play and great, knowledgeble talk while broadcasting a Dallas - Miami game in 1996...

I miss the level of greatness that guys like Pat Summerall had!

Yeah what a voice.

Very distinctive and great for football.

Much as I loved John Madden's knowledge and humor, he always sounded drunk to me. Even when he was 50.

BTW, thanks for the bio. I didn't know Summerall was a player.

I feel sorry for the younger guys who never got to see Brookshire and Summeral broadcast a Cowboys game, or hear Madden in his heyday. Great memories.

I assume his alcoholic years didn’t help.

My Mom (RIP), an alcoholic herself, used to call Summerall and Madden “boozer and blowhard”.

He had the chops and most of all, the voice. I can hear it in my head typing this.

It seems that everybody I used to watch on TV when I was a kid is dying off. When will the madness end? If this pace keeps up, there will soon be nobody left alive that was on the TV when I was a kid.

He had an amazingly understated way of calling games. He was the perfect man to pair with somebody as hyperactive as John Madden.

Summerall calling an NFC East showdown...man, those were the days.
