When Star Wars: Episode VII was first announced, it seemed like the entire world had exploded, Alderanian-like with excitement. Star Wars themed news was spewing out of every orifice of movie information, most of which turned out to be nothing more than pure speculation and the delayed fantasies of fan-boys the world over.
Since then we’ve all calmed down a bit. The clean up after our Star Wars themed binge party has begun and now we’re actually getting some solid details. J.J. Abrams will direct, Toy Story 3‘s Michael Arndt will scribe, and it looks like Harrison Ford, Mark Hamill and Carrie Fisher are likely to return. Phew.
But, he’s some more unsubstantiated news to get the party going again. According to Cosmic Book News, an unnamed source close to the production has released some major plot points for Episode VII. At the moment they are still categorized as unconfirmed rumors, but fanatical spoilerphobes might want to stop reading NOW.

Star Wars Episode VII will be set 30 years after Episode VI: Return of the Jedi.
It will indeed feature the Skywalker/Solo children coming to the peak of their powers
The Jedi Order has been rebuilt with Luke Skywalker as Grand Master
A disciple of Emperor Palpatine aims to rebuild the Sith Armies of the Old Republic and destroy the Jedi where the Skywalker children will be thrust into battle and face their inner demons of their Skywalker lineage.
Once again, this is just something an anonymous source has revealed after apparently having a chat with “someone from Lucasfilm”. That “someone” might just be the guy who fixes the air conditioning on the fourth floor, so take all this with a Death Star sized pinch of salt. Despite this, all the plot points do sound pretty reasonable. The second point has certainly been tentatively “known” for sometime, while the reemergence of the Jedi and Sith could have been reasonably guessed at. I mean, what would Star Wars be without them? But the specific time setting and the news that Luke will head-up the Jedi Order might be exciting stuff to dedicated Star Wars fans.
I suggest they complete the cycle: Mr. Spock takes command of BattleStar Galactica and commandeers Babylon V to stop the Death Star.
If they keep with the books I believe Solo’s son Jacen is the next Sith, Darth Caedus, because of what happened to him during the Yuzan Vong wars. Curious if they keep this thread.
You would have been hard-pressed to find a bigger Star Wars fan than I. That was, before the last 3 installments.
I do not believe that Lucas can tell a story any longer. He created a universe that defined a generation, then sat on his backside and those gifts he had were ignored. He helped create Indiana Jones - but then simply opted to retire to Skywalker Ranch.
Like any other gift, if you ignore it; it will go away. I’m afraid George has neglected his gift for character development and story telling go to waste; because his last 3 efforts had none of these traits.
Pity.

The funny thing is the books were good and the ones in between episodes 1, 2 and 3 even more so. It’s a shame they didn’t translate.
These next three get him out of the loop with the important parts and it should be epic.
It seems Lucas’s talents lie in producing rather than writing and directing.

But the books, by authors like Allen Dean Foster and many others - we stories told by someone else - and royalties paid to Lucasfilm for permission to write and manipulate story thread in his universe. Lucasfilm, or George in particular merely allowed them to write these stories and took the cash. Bear in mind, these books were written for nearly 20 years before he decided to shake the “money tree” again.
If he can keep clear from the character development and story lines - I have no doubt that the writers and directors can perform a truly epic movie. I just have no faith that Lucas can bear not to be front and center. His decisions and inane rationale tear and the fabric of believability. Consider - a qualification to be the Queen of Alderan is to be a female between 8 and 15. Has he never tried to talk to a girl in this age range? And you want them to rule a planet?
Sorry, watching Anakin Skywalker go from a likable albeit rebellious teenager, to child-murdering serial killer was like someone flipped a switch somewhere, or put his batteries in backwards. Padme response when told that Anakin had murdered school children? “Oh, let me talk to him” Sorry ... just bad film making. And let’s not even go near Jar-jar Binks...

I just hope that Jar Jar Binks has a major role. It would be fantastic if Jar Jar were in every scene. (How long do Gungans live? I’d settle for Jar Jar’s offspring, if necessary.)

Shortly after Spock’s succdessful attack on Death Star 2, someone in the neighborhood noticed the ruckus.
Poor Spock, just when things were looking up, along come the Xeelee nightfighters, wings billowing out like a sycamore seed, a speading blanket a hundred miles wide ... firing black-hole cannons as the come ...
what would be epic is ja jar dying anytime e’s on screen.
