SOUTH BEND, Ind. (AP) Notre Dame is joining the Atlantic Coast Conference a season earlier than expected, following the split among the Big East's football schools and seven Catholic schools that are leaving to form a basketball-focused conference.

Notre Dame announced the move Tuesday, six months after it surprised the college sports world by opting to join the ACC in all sports except football and hockey.

This could slow down the Big10’s effort to poach more ACC schools, building on the defection of Maryland. Hoops wise it’s a much better league top to bottom than the Big 10. On FB Syracuse is improving andPitt has history. Bring in NDU for five games a year and the chances of Carolina bolting is lessened.

Yeah, South Bend is on the Atlantic coast. It only makes sense.

Seems to me as if Notre Dame will benefit more due to recruiting exposure than the rest of the ACC. Meanwhile, the ACC gets a new member whose trophy room is filled with dusty antiques.

Just like Colorado is on the Pacific coast (not to mention Utah and the Az schools).

The ACC doesn’t play Hockey. We have Hockey East for that.

Just took a look at the orignal URL and ND will not be going all in, meaning both football and hockey will be in another conference.

ND isn't joining as a full football member, just playing several ACC opponents a year. FSU has a winning record versus ND, BTW (5-2). Includes wonderful games like 37-0 at Southbend (with Chris Rix!), worst defeat they ever suffered under the gaze of Touchdown Jesus.

Surprised the Big Ten wouldn’t have them.

The whole college conference realignment thing is just completely out of control.

I guess you missed the big national championship game where Alabama steamrolled them, making them look like the overrated chumps they were. Their high ranking was more fictitious than Tao's girlfriend.

I don't think FSU has anything to worry about.

Right now the Big Ten has five teams in the top 25. ACC has two. All this rearranging is driven by money not talent or competitiveness.

“Awww, too bad FSU, looks like there goes your chance to be perennial ACC Champs.”

Read it again. ND won’t be participating in ACC footbal. They’ll keep their cupcake football schedule as usual

I doubt ND will ever play in a football conference. They’re not willing to share money from their most lucrative sport. ND added nothing to the Big East and will add nothing to the ACC

They may not have a choice. I believe that a 4 Conference 16 teams per Conference format is in the not-so-distant future. If these 64 teams are smart they’ll set it up where they only play each other.
