Navigation lights work in an atmosphere and a north, east, south and west. There is neither in space. I don't see what purpose navigation lights would do.

When you are navigating, at night, when it is dark, you turn them on. Other vessels (or air craft)can see that you are navigating and in which direction:)

Navigation lights do not work on points of a compass, nor do they need atmosphere. Navigation lights show the direction of travel of the craft displaying them.

Yep. Calling anti-collision lights navigation lights does not allow one to use them to navigate.

Probably not much use in space. They would be useful when “navigating” in high traffic areas such as on earth.
