In 1960, Nixon beat Kennedy in California following up on Eisenhowers decisive wins over Adlai Stevenson. Nixon won California again in 1968, beating out Humphrey, and then McGovern in 1972. Ford held on to California in 1976, Reagan won it decisively in two elections and Bush held on to it against Dukakis.
All that ended in 1992. No Republican has won California since.
With the largest number of electoral votes in the country, California played a decisive role in Republican presidential victories. Texas, with the second largest number of electoral votes, a state which leaned Democrat around the same time that California learned Republican, has become the ace in the hole. And if the Democrats can turn Texas blue, then it may be a long time until we see a Republican in the White House.
Jimmy Carter was the last Democrat to win Texas and he was the Democrat who lost Texas. But todays Democrats are hoping that Hillary Clinton can win Texas back.

Battleground Texas may be bravado, a feint to put the Republican Party on the defensive and get it to commit valuable resources to fighting for its formerly safe territories,
I think that's right. At least as far as 2016 goes.

A lot of people from California are moving to Texas. That is not good. A lot of people from California moved to Colorado and Montana and pushed those states blue.
All it’s going to take to elect a liberal governor of Texas if for the Republican nominee to be diced, sliced, shredded, and quartered by the media 24/7. They will be sure to ruin him and his family in perpetuity, just because they can, and presto! A liberal governor will be elected. They have this down to a fine art.
I say good Luck to the Left.”
Maybe not. Patterson is running for Lt. Governor next time around. He wants to increase work permits for illegals. Then you have to deal with Dewhurst and Strauss, all the major cities which are now strongly in the Democrat camp and finally Cornyn who is up for re-election in 2014. Cornyn is busy being conservative because of Cruz but he openly courted the illegal and gay vote before Cruz was elected. Don’t expect him to change his stripes over the long haul. We also lost some state Republican seats to Democrats last time around and there are a lot more people registered as Democrats than Republicans in our state.
“the whole world, including the United States, including all that we have known and cared for, will sink into the abyss of a new Dark Age made more sinister, and perhaps more protracted, by the lights of perverted science.”
Forget the Mexican fence.
We need a fence around California to keep them in.
If Democrats win Texas, this is officially a one-party state. I can’t believe this is happening to Texas, of all states. Every time I see Julian ‘Fidel’ Castro’s grin, I want to... well, I won’t say. What a jackass.
Given the demographic trends, I suspect in 2016 that the real shoot-out will be the Dem primaries.
The November POTUS election may well be a Democrat lock, with desperate Republicans hoping to get voters out for state contests.
No

way.
My main worry is that the Dems will run Moochelle big butt in 2016 and of course, the enabling media will ensure her of a win.
Hillary has less chance of winning TX than I do, and I’m not even running for anything.
The November POTUS election may well be a Democrat lock....

With voter fraud so well established, the Rats have the WH locked up for at least the next 50 years. Soros and the gang will let it look like an election every 4 years, but it will be no such thing.
