Kyle Larson (32) is airborne after a multi-car crash at Daytona. (AP) DAYTONA BEACH, Fla A terrific NASCAR Nationwide Series race turned tragic in its last few hundred feet Saturday at Daytona International Speedway when a race car crashed violently into the catchfence and injured several fans.

>>. Last year, Joey Coulter crashed his Camping World Truck Series vehicle about 300 yards from the sight of Saturday’s accident scene<<
Wonder if they cited the driver for being in sight of the site?
I caught a splash of hot oil at MIS once.
Thought for sure Danica Patrick had wrecked another car....
I just watched it on Speed. It’s amazing more people don’t get hurt from debris. Hot fluids would suck too. Did it burn you bad?
How did Danical do? I know she didn’t win.
This was the Nationwide race. The big boys and Danica race tomorrow .
I was working security along the fence when there was a crash at the entrance to turn one. It was more of a mist of hot oil. It didn’t burn bad or anything. About like a bacon grease spatter.
Jeff Burton ended up against the wall right at my feet and I could see right down in the car as he was trying to find a gear to take off.
Amazing/scary video of the crash from the stands near where the wheel landed:
>>Most spectacular Daytona crash of them all.

HOLEY MOLEY! That was a wreck! I am amazed he survived!
Thanks, I haven’t really kept up with Nascar since the 60’s.
I remember those big Pontiacs, Ford, Chevys and Plymouths with the 427 and 426 engines. It was a different world back then.
Fireball Roberts, Fred Lorenzen, etc.
Car crapped out after 32 laps.
Damn.
Bodine got hurt fairly serious in that crash but he survived.
Another bad one was Mike Harmon at Bristol a few years ago. He walked right out the front of the car where the steering wheel was.

Speed channel is providing coverage and NASCAR president will be holding a press conference.
and how long before the left associates the crash with conservatives? aka, Republicans fault, maybe for not passing, or passing the Sequesta?
Danica raced today and was running near the front until her motor overheated and blew up. She failed to finish ... once again.

NASCAR is blocking all of the videos of the crash.
I don’t know if it was just a reputation he got by sheer luck or if it was true, but people used to say that Mario Andretti was very easy on the cars. Apparently his driving style did not stress the engines etc. as much as some others.
Danica seems to be just the opposite.
Scroll down to the bottom of the article at the last photo of the 32 car [PHOTOS: ACTION FROM DAYTONA ] and you can click the arrow on the right side of the photo and there are many still shots of the scene. It includes some of the injured being taken out on stretchers, and much of the damage.
Between this and Keselowski’s comments their warped priorities are now quite evident.
Another generation of rich kid idiots ruining the family business.
The ‘fan in the stands’ video that NASCAR blocked from youtube is now available here:

Bush’s fault
Between NASCAR and the IOC there are some paranoid, sick, callous b*stards at work. TV rights more important than news interest and/or questionable legal claims to the work of others i.e. phone footage. Remember the luge slider killed on the track? The IOC were more diligent in taking down footage than in addressing the crash.
“It was a different world back then.
Fireball Roberts, Fred Lorenzen, etc.”
And Smokey Yunick. If you don’t know about Smokey’s famous escapades, read them here. They’re funny as all git out!
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Smokey_Yunick
Here’s a little sample;
“Another Yunick improvisation was getting around the regulations specifying a maximum size for the fuel tank, by using eleven foot (three meter) coils of 2-inch (5-centimeter) diameter tubing for the fuel line to add about 5 gallons (19 liters) to the car’s fuel capacity. Once, NASCAR officials came up with a list of nine items for Yunick to fix before the car would be allowed on the track. The suspicious NASCAR officials had removed the tank for inspection. Yunick started the car with no gas tank and said “Better make it ten,”[3] and drove it back to the pits. He used a basketball in the fuel tank which could be inflated when the car’s fuel capacity was checked and deflated for the race.”
I think the fact that they believe they can control the flow of all information, even from fans, is disturbing to me.
They are so arrogant to believe that this will not give the banned video MORE circulation.
The old guys were drivers and storylellers.
I remember Benny Parsons talking about Richard Petty and saying that someone asked him if Petty was really that good. Benny said “Nah, he just got lucky 200 times”.
Yes I remember him. I used to subscribe to Mechanics Illustrated just to read his and Tom McCahill’s stories.
I think McCahill was the best writer I ever remember.
I looked again at the video, and this dude has a point:

“Yes I remember him.”
Smokey would dip body panels in acid to make them thinner, and weigh less. Stories about him, and that bygone era are great. Glad I was around to witness that time. Don’t have much interest anymore, as every car seems almost identical.
Danica and some of the big boys raced today. Smoke managed to avoid the accident to win.
I was watching it live and they did not show any rerun at all for about twenty minutes which I had never seen before
What comments did Brad make? I looked at jayskis and they didn’t give any details
Heck, that happens pretty much daily on I-95.
Danica’s vehicle suffered unexpected female problems which made it necessary for her to go home for the day.
Don't be sexist...broads hate that.
Dear God!
Horrible.
This crash scared the whatever out of NASCAR.
We were at Talledaga when Bobby Allisons car
went airborn and almost got into the stands.
Believe that was the crash that brought about
the restrictor.
Whether its NASCAR or NHRA racing we always
get as high up in the stands we can.
Prayers for all the injured today
They need to address their complaints to God.
Anyone but me. (I haven't spoken to my wife in over three months...we're not fighting, I just don't like to interrupt)
“About like a bacon grease spatter.”
If I had a bacon grease spatter, it would HURT. You must have tough skin. Glad it wasn’t bad for you.
I smell culpable negligence
Probably why NASCAR has blocked the video from further viewing.
Well the NASCAR press conference was useless.
Via other media I hear that there are 2 critically injured and one of those is a child.
Full stories at USA Today sports site. He questioned the track rota and mocked the policy that says because Sprint is a title sponsor there can be no wifi available at tracks ( sheer madness)....among many subjects.
