Can Spicy Food Really Give you Nightmares?

After a restless night of sleep, filled with nightmares where velociraptors and chainsaw-wielding maniacs chase you down, you wake up and wonder what caused such vivid, frightful dreams. Could it have been that spicy Thai food you had before bed?

Actually, there is some evidence that eating a spicy meal shortly before going to sleep can lead to some wacko dreams. In fact, eating anything too close to bedtime can trigger more dreams, because the late night snacks increase the body’s metabolism and temperature, explains Dr. Charles Bae, MD, a sleep medicine doctor at Sleep Disorders Center at the Cleveland Clinic. Heightened metabolism and temperature can lead to more brain activity, prompting more action during rapid eye movement sleep, or REM.

About every 90 minutes people experience rapid eye movement sleep as they cycle through the stages of sleep.

Having spent many years living, traveling and eating with “pepper belly’s”..it isn’t the pepper and spice that gets you..it is the fat that goes with it. The fats and acids like tomatoes and the dried pieces of anything. Cut back on the fat and it does wonders for your acid reflux.

The technicolor dreams from spicy foods are definitely true. I’ve never been one to have nightmares, but have truly spectacular dreams after a spicy meal. I enjoy them as much as the spicy food

Take some vitamin B. That will give you the wild technicolor dreams of which you speak!
Ask me how I know!

Try a couple of shots of apple cider vinegar a day.

Got rid of my acid reflux. Takes about two weeks. Keep on taking it for 3 months to be permanent.

Never hears of the cider vinegar treatment.

Any particular time of day to do this?

I just took a sip upon waking, and before going to sleep.

I used the Braggs live culture version. I got tired of waking up with lungs and sinus full of acid.

I sip ACV to lower my blood pressure when it spikes. ACV is a wonder drug. Many folks don’t know about it’s benefits.

When you say ACV, do you mean apple cider vinegar?

Yes. You can Google ACV and find many uses for it. Apple cider vinegar is also a natural diuretic.
