Ohio State vs. Notre Dame. That could be a fun game.

FCS is Football Championship Subdivision and FBS is Football Bowl Subdivision.
Championship Subdivision for the former 1-AA teams (App. State, Murray State), because they play a playoff to decide their championships.
Bowl Subdivision for the former 1-A teams (like Michigan, USC, Florida) because they all play in bowls.

It is a recent term for Football Championship Subdivision. Smaller schools, for the most part, North Dakota State is the reigning champion. Instead of bowl games, there is a “playoffs” system in place.

Well, I look at this from another perspective. Actually those smaller schools that lose 56-0 against bigger schools benefit from the television money that otherwise their schools would not see.
To: ConservativeStatement
They need to drop Purdue, Illinoise, and Indiana. They are about as good as an FCS school too.
To: KC_Conspirator
For sure. This is much larger than just the game. There are other factors including money for enhancing on-campus athletic facilities.

Ahem.

“North Dakota State is the reigning champion.”
Two years in a row I might add. The Bison could beat anyone in the Big 10. They have a very impressive record since moving up to the FCS. They were not even eligible for the playoffs for a few seasons. I think the Big 10 coaches are scared. Look what Appalachia State did to mighty Michigan in Rich Rods first season.

There are schools where football is considered about as relevant as field hockey, soccer, rugby and so forth and could easily be relegated to club status without many people getting upset.
Basketball is different.
The Big Ten deals with this by looking at flight times ~ and 'balance' ~ they want the big basketball schools and some big football schools ~ but they can't get everything!

It'll be more like Ohio St vs. Tulane or Eastern Michigan because those are much more worthy opponents than Appy St. or North Dakota

Sheesh, what’s your point? Really takes courage to be a front runner, takes a total lack of a sense of humor to misread my point, and a total lack of knowledge to put Cal and Bama in the Big Ten.
Bad day?
To: KC_Conspirator
the smaller, less affluent schools do benefit from playing a big school with huge attendence and a tv package...
however, its pretty ridiculous that some big schools play several of these smaller schools just to get it in the win column.

Bcs is weird. It’s better to lose to a top ranked team (like ‘bama) than crush an unranked opponent.
