photo d5a39bab-f2c8-4e0f-829e-737208d2b1d3_zpse0321f4f.jpg I won this monster over the holidays, Vanguard 300 Weatherby Mag. I live in north MS and the largest thing we have to hunt is white tail deer. This is overkill. I don't know much about it but kinda like it for my small collection. I don't think I will ever get the chance to hunt with it. Would you suggest keep it, trade it or sell it?

Keep it, it’s only going to become more valuable. I’ll be happy to store it for you.

If you need the money, prices are peaking right now for everything.

It is probably a great time to sell, especially something like this that would be far less likely to end up on initial ban or restriction lists (and thus prices will drop when everything cools down).

If you were in elk country you could probably do some serious swapping with that thing.

Up to a couple of years ago Hickory Flat had the only red light in Benton County I think.

Good point on the reloading options. As for ammo availability, it might be worth thinking about the present as well as the future. Right now, Weatherby calibers are probably a lot easier to get than most.

Weatherby brass (and loaded ammo) falls into a "just popular enough" area, where supply should be adequate. No problems with "trendiness".

I don't think I will ever get the chance to hunt with it.

It certainly is a beautiful rifle, but if you're not going to use it for hunting, is prohibitively expensive for shooting.

I would list it on gunbroker no reserve no minimum.

***You could get a $50 gift card to a grocery store!***

TAKE THE SCOPE OFF FIRST! No use letting that go to the cops.

Everyone, if you have never been to a Friends of the NRA dinner, please check out

Find you state, and go to one. They auction off firearm items and have drawings for firearms, etc. Great fun.

Great gun. Keep it in case you need to face down a Sasquatch. :-)

Trade it for a blue-helmet buster maybe?

NOt sure there is such a thing as “too dead”...

But that being said - I know some folks here in Arkansas (I don’t think our Whitetail are any more bullet-resistant than yours) who use similar large-bore calibers for deer hunting.

It’s a neat gun, though the “Vanguard” line is not the real “high-end” of Weatherby rifles. I think it is actually made (at least the action is) by Howa rifles - not a bad name either.

I see two options - one is to keep it (might want to check the cost and availability of ammo for that thing - most of the Weatherby Magnum chamberings are VERY expensive). You can use it for deer hunting, no problem. Just don’t shoot a deer in the shoulder - the front end will be nasty and wasted.

The other option (the one I would probably take) - sell it or trade it for something a bit more practical.

Move?

Flip it for something sensible, like a .308 VEPR. :-).

Seriously? Perusing Weatherby's website, it looks like a Vanguard Sporter, which has an MSRP of $895. Scope, unknown. You should be able to sell or trade, and get something interesting. Unfortunately, modern "personal defense rifles" are going for insane prices, these days.
