Contrary to poplar misconception, bears don’t hibernate. [No warm-blooded animals are capable of it as far as I know.] They have a significantly reduced activity period during the winter; but I have come across them in the woods in December and January many times.

I'm am a fisherman and not a hunter.
With that much snow on the ground I would have expected a bear to be taking a winter snooze- even if is wasn't a full hibernation.- tom

Dumb bear. Now he will get sick wearing wet fur Wet fur still has good thermal insulation properties, and it dries out pretty fast (observe a dog doing it, but don't stand too close :-) Wool clothing is perfect for winter.
