This gal has some fragile arthritic hands which I’d like to be able to play music with...and I’m looking at a Sig 250. What do you think for weak, sore hands?

They’ll tell you to get a 38 revolver to start. The thing is, think of it as your first gun, not your only gun.

You have not lived until you went turtle hunting with a .410...

I've hunted newts in a farm pond with my 10-22. They come up and take a gulp of air and disappear, ya gotta be quick! But, of course I slipped and lot the 10-22 in the pond.

Is this one of those hidden picture things?

I found the gun and bullets... after 45 minutes

YW. Well, I’m not as intense as most FReepers. I like the idea of guns better than actually dealing with them. Get your simple pistol, gain some confidence but you need eventually to learn to slide that top thing on a semi automatic without pinching your hand because those kinds of pistols wont kill your hand like a 38 detective. Indoor ranges on a quiet day. I like talking to,guys who have had carpal tunnel surgery because they can lead me to guns I can practice with without agony.

Hi there. Did you read about that gal in Georgia who plugged an intruder with her detective special? I’ve been trying to find out what kind of bullets she had because the darned fool LIVED.

Could I just keep a pistol instead of the semi automatic
I just don’t envision myself getting one and going to get another one.

Actualy the 9mm and 38 special shoot the same caliber round. the .38 just has alot more powder (velocity) behind it.

Other way round. The .38Sp has c.200lbf ME, the 9mm para has double that.

Yes. Just get really big bullets, like hollow points if you are keeping it in the house for defense. But once you learn to fire it, likely you will want a semi because you get more bullets. I am rig ht now shopping for a CCW that is small, effective. Just get started.

I’ve been looking at the Springfield XD-S. Looks like a nice CC weapon.

I would strongly recommend NRA training first.

Shooting both pistols and revolvers are part of the Basic Pistol course.

I don’t believe in telling others what to do...

I will tell you what I do...I carry a 9mm XD Subcompact for my EDC, loaded with 147 gr Golden Sabres...Two spare mags and LED light support side...And have never inadequately armed...

Handguns of any caliber are not very powerful...We carry handguns because a rifle isn’t very concealable, and a cop is too heavy...

I recommend to my students they buy and carry the largest caliber (preferably a “safe action” like Glock or XD) that fits their body and hand size/shape, will work well given their daily activity and modes of dress, that they can handle and shoot well, and still guarantee their hits...This will be different for everyone...

That means a controlled pair to center of the thoracic cavity as fast as possible...If the attacker/threat is not stopped, the third shot goes center of the brain box...

Not everyone wants, can manage or shoots well a .45, .40, .357 or a .44 Magnum...If you want one, more power to you...

With practice ammo prices what they are, and modern defensive bullet/ammo designs being so effective, the 9mm is a good choice for CCW, despite the running battle to the contrary...

For further on this line of reasoning:

Not true. The thing about stopping power is shock induced by the round. The bigger the bullet the more shock. The larger the wound channel.

Shoot someone in the shoulder with a .22 and the bullet can bounce off a bone and wind up in the heart. Shoot someone in the chest with a .44 Mag and it will make a Nickel sized hole in the front and a fist sized hole on the way out the back. Your mileage may vary.
