San Diego Police Chief William Lansdowne said gangs are growing as a result of the state's prison realignment
SAN DIEGO The murder rate in San Diego was up almost 20 percent in 2012 from the year before, and in San Diego County, the numbers increased by almost 23 percent.
San Diego Police Chief William Lansdowne said gangs are growing as a result of the state's prison realignment with California wardens shifting tens of thousands of inmates to county jail cells or providing early release.
"We're seeing about a thousand additional people out of prison and they don't have quite the level of oversight they would normally have and it's pretty clear that it's having some effect on the gangs and they're being more aggressive than before," Lansdowne said.
Gang violence is up 34 percent, he said.

Why we need high cap magazines and assault rifles-a clear and present danger.
a product of the increasing US gang presence, you were nearly twice as likely to be attacked and killed by multiple perpetrators in 2005 as you were in 1975. the Bureau of Justice has not made available the same data for 2005-2012 but it doesn't take a genius to guess how this trend has moved in the past five years. Again, this is a clear and present danger and demonstrates a very legitimate need for high capacity magazines for the legal purpose of self defense.
This is rather odd, you post a story about San Diego, CA and then put in a photo of gangs from Tennessee.
Here is the source of that image you posted.

I find it odd that that you would choose to quibble about something stupid like that instead of readily agreeing with me that gang violence and multiple perpetrator attacks are a growing threat and justification for law abiding citizens to remain WELL armed with high cap magazines. Why don’t you tell us how much you hate Barack Obama and the democratic blight he presides over.
There was no quibbling, as you say.
I just made the observation and thought it a bit odd you posted a thread about CA gangs and then chose to post a picture of gangs from Tennessee, which is totally unrelated to the article.
Fortunately, these Democrats are mainly killing each other.
for now. They aren’t robbing each other btw.
And Ese with the Hi-Point to his right.
Never get caught wearing the wrong colored clothes in those neighborhoods.
The pic is obviously of Mexican gang members. It’s a safe bet that’s what comprises most of the gangs in San Diego; so, IMO, it’s an appropriate photo.
Totally unrelated? really? the underlying point has nothing to do with California really. The underlying point is that gangs are growing and spreading and that, because of this, we are seeing a rise in homicides which involve multiple perpetrators and this is is why firearms with high capacity magazines are legitimately needed by law abiding citizens who wish to legally defend themselves as the SCOTUS has declared we are within our legal rights to do. Because of this new reality, banning high capacity magazines for civilian use effectively denies citizens the right to self defense which, because of previous rulings, is unconstitutional. Given that these criminal thugs are also in possession of long guns, as evidenced by the picture, it can similarly be argued that denying law abiding citizens the right to possess semi automatic rifles with detachable bog magazines capable of holding 30 or more rounds is equally unconstitutional especially when we consider that the FBI estimates the US gang population to be approximately 1 million members nationwide. that’s almost 10x larger than the Venezuelan army. It’s well over 10x the size of Cuba’s Army. It’s 4x the size of the British Army. It’s about 8x the size of the French army. Clear and present danger. that’s the relevant point that you should take away from this post.
California has more important things to spend money on than prisons - - like “green” energy, driver licenses for illegal aliens, $300,000/year lifeguards...
It’s about priorities.
A thousand additional people out of prison. The liberal mind is a deadly thing.
The two pistol guys have good trigger discipline unlike homey in the middle.
Exactly. Don't blame the wardens. The politicians spend the money on things other than protecting the people.
The judges require 200 sq. ft. (or whatever the number is) of living space per prisoner.
The parole boards turn felons loose that have no business on the streets.
The only difference between your Tennessee gang and the SD gang is the southern drawl.........and the moonshine they sell.
Wow, correctionsone.com is quite a website. The whole corrections industry has become very expensive.
You seem a bit distraught over the fact someone pointed out ya posted an article about gangs, specifically in CA, yet posted a picture of gangs in Tennessee.
That would be like me posting about corrupt state government in Ohio, then posting a picture of governor Brown in CA.
What's also inquisitive is the article ya posted was accompanied by it's own photo, yet you chose a picture from a completely different story, from a completely different state.
No need to get excited over this, I just felt it was odd ya went out of your way to do this.
But the big difference is the weather in Tennessee sucks amigo!
