Tony Romo, Dallas Cowboys should part ways after latest loss
NFL ^ | Dec. 31, 2012 | Gil Brandt

The Dallas Cowboys needed quarterback Tony Romo to come up big against the Washington Redskins on Sunday night. Instead, he threw three interceptions, including a crucial fourth-quarter pick that contributed to the Cowboys' season-ending loss. After the latest down moment in Romo's inconsistent career, I think it's time for Dallas to move on; it's time for the Cowboys to cut ties with Romo.

Romo's one of those guys who seems to do really well when it doesn't count, but when it counts, he doesn't get the job done. It's not because he's not smart; it's not because he's not athletic; it's not because he doesn't have ability. He just doesn't do what he needs to, and I think his performance Sunday was a prime example of that.

First, I just don't think he was sharp; he was throwing the ball behind people and so forth. On that big fourth-quarter interception, he was just fooled; Rob Jackson made a good play for the Redskins, but Romo was just fooled.

I used to say the same thing after Dan Snyder bought the Redskins.

And you were right. Snyder had the "Jerry syndrome". He had cronies doing GM duty, threw out huge contracts to players who came to DC only to get paid, etc. That's what Jerry does. The difference is Snyder realized his problem and changed completely. Jerry never will.

I bet they would love Tim Tebow. Tebow needs to play for a red state team. He got screwed in NY becauase of his love for god. NY sportswriters hate that stuff.

“As a die hard Cowboys fan, I somewhat agree. He never has had a great running game to support him though. Do many teams have a great running game anymore?”

Um...Washington?

The best season the Cowboys ever had was 1989, they went 1-15.

“It may go back to the Tom Landry days, a coach I respected ...”

.
Tom Landry celebrated his 21st birthday piloting a bomber through flak over Germany. He was more than just a good coach.

I’d also like to point out that Romo has more postseason wins than Matt Ryan, whom the media drools over every year, only to watch him blow it in the first round.

As a Giants fan, I respectfully disagree. C'mon. You can't be taking shots at the G-men. 2 Super Bowl wins against Brady after multiple road wins against solid teams like Green Bay. Last year when the Giants got the ball back and Manning unleashed that beauty I knew they won before Manningham caught the ball. Could Romo make that throw? Sure. But would he? Never in a million years. Manning is a winner despite being surrounded by above average talent. Romo has had loaded teams in the past and chokes time after time.

Let it go. Romo will never win.

Superbowls in 2007 & 2011...pretty lucky!

BTW, when was the last millenium when the Cowgirls even won a playoff game?

Tom Coughlin is a hell of a coach. He took two worthless teams and made them champs. Statistically the two worst teams to ever win the Super Bowl were the '07 and '11 Giants. Coughlin is officially the world's best turd polisher.

I also delight in rooting against all things New York. It must be because I'm a conservative.

The whole “America’s Team” thing was a creation of Tex Schramm with the help of his good buddy NFL Commissioner Pete Rozelle. It was actively pushed by the NFL. The end result is that the Cowboys are the queens of the bandwagon and T-shirt fans.

Blame the National Passing League for creating this situation. Long gone are the days when defense alone could take you to the Big Show, or a solid running back could pick up the slack (or even lead the team) when the quarterback fails.

Have you watched Adrian Peterson this year? In a just world the MVP voting this season won't even be close.

The Cowboys actually lost because someone put their hand on Griffin’s helmet. They might’ve lost anyway, but that was the nail in the coffin. I find it somehow profoundly sad.

“Too much was asked of him”

I don’t know if asking for less than three interceptions is too much. Had Romo accomplished as much as Christian Ponder, for example and for God’s sake, they might’ve won.

Well...Dallas isn’t going to get a ‘great’ quarterback anytime soon...unless its blind luck. All of the sure thing quarterbacks will get snapped up early in the draft, Manning’s got a 5 year deal, Brady is never leaving NE, and Luck and RG3 just started their contracts.

Like I said: go ahead and fire Romo...if there is a better alternative available. I don’t think there is right now.

Nope, that's the Steelers. Go to any sports bar in America where the Steelers are playing the local market team (including the DFW area), and you'll see a legion of slack jawed Steeler fans who can't even find Pennsylvania on a map wearing jerseys and swinging those stupid towels.

When he threw that last interception, I said to myself, “I bet he was thinking about Jessica Simpson.”

“It’s called Brett Favre Syndrome”

Inaptly, as he won a Superbowl, got close in another one, and won several playoff games. Also, he gets blamed much for what was not his fault. For instance, the Vikings lost in 09 because of a twelve men on the field penalty and not stopping the Saints after losing the overtime coin toss, NOT because of his interception, which was all the idiot talking heads could remember.

I respectfully submit another candidate. His name is Josh Freeman, quarterback for Tampa Bay.

Their record? 7 wins, 9 losses

His records? Franchise record for team scoring, franchise record for team total yards, franchise record for passing yards, franchise record for passing touchdowns.

I saw this guy operate at Kansas State. Highly recruited, and groomed from his early teens in elite summer scouting camps...and gets great stats. He just doesn’t know how to win games.

We had another one here in Kansas City - Elvis Grbac. He set total completion records. Never mind most of his completions were 3 yard passes in 3rd and 8 situations...he got the record though.

I see Romo differently. He’s not trying to pad his stats. He’s just in a dysfunctional system, and making the best of it.

I think Tebow to Jacksonville is a done deal...I think he’s a Florida boy, so its a good match.

Crumble, crumble, little cookies. I haven’t been a Cowboys fan since Jones treated Coach Landry like a water boy.
