unixfox, we're not off the grid yet, but trying. It takes a very long time, for us anyway, to remove ourselves completely from the only way of life we have ever known. Neither my husband nor I grew up on farms.

And the goat milk makes great yogurt and cheese, and make some chedder cheese so it will last.
