Our kittehs are members of our families and each one is an individual with their very own personalities, likes and dislikes. She will need time to grieve, but tell her one of the best ways to heal is to rescue a kitten or two from a shelter. That way, she is allowing the love she had for her lost one to continue with a new one and it honors the one she lost by saving a new life. They really DO heal our hearts - I know it from first hand experience.

I want your type of life, so simple and unencumbered by nothing more serious to announce to the world that your daughters cat died.

There are always bigger problems in the lives of other people, but that does not mean we should not feel pain and grief at the death of an animal to whom we shared an emotional bond.

I would never declaw a cat. That’s like amputating a human’s fingers.

I had one male cat declawed at my mother's rquest. Then, years later, I adopted an older female cat who had already been declawed.

The male cat didn't get paranoid because of being declawed, but that older female cat was paranoid.

I will never, ever have another cat declawed, nor will I adopt one hwo has already been declawed. I know it's convenient for the owner and the furniture, but I have come to believe it's cruel to the cat,

I have six furbabies now, ranging from the age of 11-1/2 years down to two 5-month-old kittens. They will all be keeping their claws. We don't have much claw-able furniture to speak of, but they are all pretty good about using the scratching posts and cat tree.

Anyway, other needy cats will find you and give your daughter joy in her time of grief.

I do not change like the wind, there is no pretense about me....

As I write this behind the safety of my computer screen.. just on the outskirts of Kabul Afghanistan, where I have been, now starting my 3rd year after spending 15 months in Southern Sudan.

Pardon me, or don't pardon me, I don't care... after seeing such abject poverty, strife both man made and institutional corruption absolutely destroy people, families, villages, cities.

Now I get grief because a cat died, and I am less empathetic then some people think I should be?

Or I point out that a human being died and it is nothing more than a passing note, and I am ostracized because I don't think it is worthy to address on a website.

I was here when my last 2 dogs died,

It happens, I didn't post anything because they are animals

I was here in 2010 when my father died...

Sorry if I don't share the death of a cat as the end of the world, or have any earth shattering empathy for people (not the cat family) but you who have take your time to point out what a horrible person I am... Gosh I might have change my view to polymorphism, a cat is a boy is a rat is a tree.

You want me to show sorrow? I shall weep for the country and the hero's who died, defending it. I will not weep for a cat.

If that hurts your sensibilities... Really? Really Grow up, or don't.

Where you are or how you take loss is irrelevant. You had the option to keep your mouth shut, yet you chose to tell someone in mourning that he had no right to grieve. That is cruelty.

Condolences...Been there,done that.
My story has a pretty happy ending....My big ol Boog,a large gray cat with golden eyes, big soft body and shorter-than-normal tail, was the light of our lives. He lived 16 years before succumbing to kidney failure. He died in my arms and my heart was broken.
Afew days later, while at work, still feeling yucky,I suddenly had this voice in my head saying "go to Petsmart...Go to Petsmart..." Mind you, although I had two cats,Boog and Rusty,i'd always gone to Walmart or the grocery store for their needs.Never set foot in Petsmart before that, for any reason.Don't know why;just didn't.
The nagging feeling followed me all day. After work,I went to petsmart-immediately walking over to the adoption center as if guided there.I walked in,saw the two front cages occupied by the cutest little babies ever. I played with them a minute or two, tears coming up in my eyes, when out of the corner of my eye I see this little striped paw coming out of a cage on the far end of he row, next to the wall.Curious,I looked in-and saw the fattest, sweetest, most beautiful little girl kitty in the whole wide world!!! She looked at me,meowed that adorable little cooing purr-type meow that touches your heart, and rubbed against my hand as if she'd known me forever.Beautiful pale-green eyes locked with mine, and my heart just leapt with joy. The attendant said she had just been brought in and they hadn't even had time to put a card on the front of her cage. He pulled her folder and said her name was Precious. I immediately said, "No,that's what she IS. Her name is Penny."
Six years later, Princess Penny Too-Fat (She who must be obeyed) is still just as sweet, just as precious and loved so much-and I credit my old friend Boog for guiding me to her. She is so much like him-short legs, big soft body,shorter-than-normal tail, and, like Boog, not big on people food, but loves tuna fish.Boog's still with us-we have his ashes in a little ceramic urn by the window, since that was his favorite spot-and his spirit is alive and well in Penny.

And you, like the initiator of the post would be well advised...blah, blah, blah

I don't take advice from angry people who think they know what is important and demand others think as they do.

You think the death of a child's pet is not important yet you read through 50+ posts about it? Then you write a nasty post? That's classic dysfunctional behavior.

Basement cats are the best! I’m sorry for her loss - give her some time and then when the time is right, another furry friend will be blessed with her love.

Oh,NOW I understand why you posted the way you did. I guess this post kinds rubbed you the wrong way. I think, instead of posting about how insignificant the loss of a pet is in the grand scheme of things to you, maybe you should have just skipped over this thread and moved onto something that you find more relevant. That being said, I can see where you're coming from. I guess people don't lose pets and grieve over that in Afghanistan or Southern Sudan. Here, stateside, although we are fully aware of the sacrifices and strife of those who bravely defend us-and are eternally grateful to them for it-we tend to be mindful of what happens within our families, ans with our friends, since we are with them most of the time. You'll just have to overlook us. I'd recommend skipping dead-cat threads in the future, since it's not your cup of tea. Just sayin'.

Dang, kid, I can't take you anywhere! If I have to stop this car one more time... B-)

Enough humor, all I can say is "have a heart" (as I remember from one commercial back in the 1970's) or skip these threads. Sometimes, there are days I just have to let it go for a few hours or even a day or two. I know we are going to Hell in a handbasket, but I'd go crazy and go ape if I do not take a mental break. Again, some of my favorite 1970's era wisdom, one song from the Atlanta Rhythm Section puts it:

I'm Not Gonna Let It Bother Me Tonight (1978)

I picked up the paper this morning
And read all the daily blues
The world is one big tragedy
I wonder what I can do

About all the pain and injustice
About all of the sorrow
We're living in a danger zone
The world could end tomorrow

But I'm not gonna let it bother me tonight
I'm not gonna let it bother me tonight
Tomorrow I might go as far as suicide
But I won't let it bother me tonight
Life on the street is a jungle
A struggle to keep up the pace
I just can't beat that old dog eat dog
The rats keep winnin the rat race

But I'm not gonna let it bother me tonight
I'm not gonna let it bother me tonight
The world is in an uproar and I see no end in sight
But I won't let it bother me tonight

I'm not gonna let it bother me tonight
Tomorrow I might go as far as suicide
But I won't let it bother me tonight
Lord, Lord, Lord
We got nothing but trouble
I've done all I can do today
So bartender pour me a double, right now
But I'm not gonna let it bother me tonight
I'm not gonna let it bother me tonight
The world is in an uproar and I see no end in sight
But I won't let it bother me tonight

I'm not gonna let it bother me tonight
No I'm not gonna let it bother me tonight
Tomorrow I might go as far as suicide
But I will not let it bother me tonight

Let me add if I may, life happens to each of us, no matter world events, people born, people die, same with pets, we got new jobs, buy cars and houses, have problems and triumphs and some do like to share and chat about it, asking for advice or just another shoulder to cry or or vent to or even just to shoot the breeze. In a way, we are the center of our universe or at least the perception is there. I might take an hour or three today and just chill and BS on the ham radio or Playstation, being the Playstation junky I am.

BTW, I do admire your service, I'm sure you gave a lot, I'm just saying we need to be a little more civil here.

Slings, this is a portrait of Asperger’s. If you ignore it, it might go away, like a pustule—come to think of it, you have to lance abscesses, don’t you? OK, I stand corrected.

I was thinking “sociopathy” rather than Asperger’s, but I concede the point.

No one is telling you to weep for a cat, or a dog or any animal that someone loved that has passed on.

Last night someone commented her daughter lost an animal. Those of us who are lucky enough to have had critters in our lives- to have a critter own us- (for we don’t own them, you know) - of course we mourn when they die. The fact that we as humans outlive them makes it all the more sad when they leave.

Ten years ago today my first cat died. Kidney failure. Putting her down was the hardest thing I’ve ever done in my life - to date. Two years ago, ironically in December as well, I had renal failure in both kidneys and ended up on Dialysis. It hurt like hell. I can only imagine what pain my poor cat must have gone through when she was going through her renal failure.

I’ve been crying today thinking of her. Yes I still miss her. Yes, I still think of her every day since she’s been gone. Yes, I adopted another cat about 2 months after the first one died and l love her. All I can say despite the tears I am the luckiest girl in the world that I shared my life with a wonderful cat for 16 years, and I’m blessed for that fuzz ball.

I wish you could find that same happiness with a dog or a cat someday.

I abhor both of those platforms, I believe they are fundamentally wrong Does that mean that I stop voting for someone that supports them? Apparently, you have been voting for forty years, which makes you, minimally, 58, and yet you're there in Sudan or Kabul or whatever.

Something tells me there's a little white lie somewhere. Of course, I could dig a little deeper, but who has the time?

Busted.
