"WE WANT BEER PARADE"

It was a sign of the times when the Mayor is the one leading protesters down Fifth Avenue. On May 14, 1932 Jimmy Walker, then the Mayor of New York City, organized a daylong “Beer for Taxation” parade (later known as the “We Want Beer” parade) in objection to the Eighteenth Amendment, which prohibited the manufacture, sale, transport, import, or export of alcoholic beverages.

Notice how the protesters dressed—everyone wore a hat, a coat and a tie.

Quite a reasonable demand.

Well-dressed crowd of citizens.
Glad their demands were met.

They look so sharp! Look at those shined shoes and boutonnieres!

"Beer for my horses" ... unless you're Anheuser-Busch, in which case it's beer from your horses!

I want cheap(er) boutique beers (Blue Moon, e.g.). I can't subsist on Miller Lite, Busch Light, Milw.'s Best Light, Keystone Light, etc. :( :))

Whisky's too rough

Champagne costs too much

Vodka puts my mouth in gear.

This little refrain

Should help to explain

As a matter of fact I like beer (He likes beer!)

Perhaps we can soon march for our 32 oz sodas.

Because you can get a 32 oz beer in New York, but not a 32 oz Coke.

Beer has seen me through a few bleak difficult times. I would feel compelled to be there for beer if it needed me.
