LAS VEGAS (AP) A Las Vegas Strip restaurant bearing the initials of celebrity financier Donald Trump was briefly shut down after health inspectors found violations including month-old caviar and expired yogurt.
DJT, the signature steakhouse at the Trump International Hotel, reopened Nov. 2 with a restored "A'' grade several hours after Southern Nevada Health District officials logged 51 violations during a routine inspection.
Thirty violations merit a "C'' grade, district spokeswoman Jennifer Sizemore said Friday.
Inspectors reported finding outdated, expired, unlabeled, mishandled and improperly stored food, according to a summary posted on the health district's website. The closure was first reported by KTNV-TV as part of a "Dirty Dining" segment focused on area restaurants.

lol.
Month-old caviar.... aka little fishies.... heh
Yuck. I’ll get my porterhouse somewhere else if I go to Vegas, thanks.
My job used to involve visiting a lot of businesses.
I can remember some restaurants would look really nice and then when you went into the back they were pretty bad. I was surprised they had passed inspection.
I also would sometimes find one to be immaculate.
I’ve got a buddy who is a salesman for a food supplier.
He has some great intel on local restaurants, and as you say, you can’t always tell by the serving side of the operation.
Methinks Trump’s restaurant was singled out, gee I can’t imagine why.
It would be nice to have inside info on restaurants cleanliness.
I know a guy who runs a huge food service which serves several thousand people at a time tho usually it is not that many. I can remember when that place used to have a case of food poisoning about once a Summer. The food was great but the cooks were not very clean.
After this guy took over, there was never another case. He was a fanatic about cleanliness.
how can month old caviar not have a stench about it?
“The food was great but the cooks were not very clean.”
Guess that’s part of the art ... ;-)
Maybe someone froze it?
eh, probably not...
good question... but it’s Vegas how can you smell anything over the crowds?
Then look at the bathrooms. If they are out of soap or paper towels or the bathrooms are not clean, then you can bet the filter basket on the dishwasher only gets emptied when it's full.
I've worked in a lot of restaurants, I'll eat in very few.

Inspectors are coming soon to a GOP donor-owned business near you.
(Barack-O -Claus knows if they’ve been naughty).
The Donald to the restaurant manager “You’re FIRED!”
If they’re out of soap or paper towels then the employees’ hands aren’t clean from bathroom visits, either. An absence of hot running water in the bathroom sink is a problem, too.
I too have gotten to where I will not eat out any more than I have to. When I do, I try to be very courteous to the waitress etc.
That was my first thought, too.
As for month-old caviar, it kind of depends how it was kept, I should think. Sealed jar in an icebox?
If I could afford to put caviar in my refrigerator these days, I wouldn't be in any hurry to throw it out.
There was one store on my route a discount grocery chain I think it was called Super Foods that was even worse OMG, I wouldnt buy Rat Chow from that dump.
The cleanest stores I ever called on were Giant, a Maryland chain. They were very well run and very clean, exceptionally clean and thats where I shopped when I lived in Maryland.
That means they found one can of outdated caviar....which may not necessarily be unusable, a frozen package of something with a rip in it and a partridge in a pear tree.
What a joke....
I remember a bar in Western Kansas. I actually closed it down.
It did not look particularly good in any way but I was a bit shocked when I went to the back. There was a beer tap which actually looked nice but on the other side was just a large bucket like container, open to the air tho it was in a cooler.
There was several dead insects inside the bucket.
I travel a lot and there are so many places I go where I bring my own food because I will NOT eat at any of the establishments. Be they restaurants or grocery store food service.
A friend and I exchange notes on places we will eat at and it usually starts with...well, I didn’t get sick there. Doesn’t matter if it’s a high end place or a ‘dive’.
And I agree...you can usually tell about sanitation by taking a trip to the bathroom. If it’s not clean...I’ll just have a drink and then go w/o any food.
Re Trump...he’s a loud mouth jerk...but I’m not going to blame him for the restaurant in Vegas. It’s not like Trump is a chef. He just licenses his name.

Winner Winner Chicken Dinner!!
and the problem was????? (the insects were small and on top....the beer dispensed from the bottom)....who cares? (was it cold??)
You must have been one of his regulars.
“Poppy got sloppy”?
The bacteria on the menus far outweigh the month-old caviar. Research points to nasty! Have the waiter/waitress read the menu to you!
The place I mentioned earlier where every Summer we all got food poisoning was also a place I worked during the Summers.
All the cooks were Black. They were a nice bunch and as I said, turned out great food but I do blame them for the food poisoning. I remember one time I got it, I awoke during the night with my insides hurting. My roommate was already up and he asked if I had it too?
I asked what he was talking about and he said everyone had food poisoning. Within seconds I was on my way to the toilet.
Maybe a half hour later the retreat Dr. (we had a staff Dr. back then) was in the boys dorm recreation room passing out medicine out of gallon jugs. It contained heroin I was told. It did work but boy I was sick.
On the other hand, I ate at the training table at Troy University. We ate in the main dining room after everyone else had eaten. They would close the line and we would go through. We got the same food the students got plus a few extras such as steaks. These cooks were also Black but we never had a case of food poisoning there and we ate for 9 months a year.
I have never been a fan of turnips but they really knew how to cook them at Troy back then. They were delicious.
I once went to a French restaurant, and there were actually snails on my plate....can you believe that?
good thing they don’t inspect houses (sshhh not so loud). my kitchen wouldn’t pass in 20 seconds and if they ever watched me cook. i am very careful with thawing and handling fish and chicken but how many of you wash your hands BEFORE emptying the clean dishes in the dishwasher?
i am also old school and was brought up that a little dirt wouldn’t kill you but would make you healthier. i think some of the childhood ailments today are from too saniyary conditions.
I rest my case. . . .

I've closed down many a bar. But funny... I don't remember them... ;-)
I was just thinking. Neither I nor any of my 4 Brothers and Sisters ever got food poisoning from Mother’s cooking. That would cover around 18 years for each of us plus the many times we ate with her after we were grown.
Mother was very clean but you would think she would have messed up at least once. As near as I can tell she never did.
The one I closed down was permanent. We had the locks changed.
bump
It’s probably *pay-back* for his intrusion into the messy world of politics.
Round these parts...inspections are not that frequent....due to cut-backs in personnel...perhaps annually.
Don’t get me started on how filthy hospitals are...and lacking in common sense sanitary practices.
The Donald being such a narcissist is probably stinging from this event....he being so proud of his brand and all. He should stick to real estate development IMHO....and just fade away.
So, we have local union inspectors and Worldwide Yahoo attacking Trump. Before long the Donald will disappear into a secret prison gulag. Mark my words, people will start disappearing anytime now!
It's been going on for a while now, least since Clinton. and let's not forget Marilyn Monroe.
For several decades the number of unusual deaths surround high ranking Democrats has been statistically aberrant.
Methinks someone is going to get fired!
Jesse Jackson admitted spitting in the Food served to White People when he worked in a Restaurant as a young man.
Nowadays, Blacks just Vote for the Commie who gives them other people’s stuff. It’s easier than having to get a job so you have the opportunity to spit in the Food.
Oooh, was that a racist comment? Check back with me when Romney gets ONE VOTE in Philly.
I just got back from a week in Vegas for work. The food wasn’t great anywhere I went. Very expensive, very ordinary.

The Denny’s at the South end of the strip (near Circus Circus) is pretty good. Handmade burgers, friendly staff, the manager checked every table at least twice. This was last Wednesday afternoon.
Sure, it’s Denny’s, but it was a pleasant surprise, to say the least.
JMHO, ymmv.
Good thing no one *inspects* the stuff in the back of my fridge! Heh. I once had yogurt that was 6 months past expiration...it tasted fine.
The joke around here...is that the only time my fridge really gets a through cleaning....is when we have a power outage...so since our last *big* one....just B4 Halloween.......I’m all good for a while. :)
