I like to tip. I think in all my 66 yrs. I’ve maybe had a couple of bad experiences in this. Dinner tips are 20% full service, 15% buffet; Lunch tips are 15% full service, 10% buffet, Breakfast very rarely eaten away from home. Twinkies are generally pretty fair tippers because we are cheerful tippers!

Roger that. You’re right — I did cherry pick you a bit, but I see now where you’re coming from.
First, I never said I stuff anyone. I tip, and I pay for the service I get. I may hate it but i still do it. But I resent waitstaff presuming that they will get and always deserve a tip.
Second, no shame in being a cheapskate. I am a single mom supporting a disabled daughter. I am also debt free with no public assistance or child support or alimony. I believe in being self supportive.
Third, I see just as much hate and acrimony and envy and jealousy and heart bleeding on this thread as I do at DU.
Tijeras, it is only by the Grace of God that I am not there right now. My house got flooded by Sandy, but in the town 2 over from me there are houses that aren’t there anymore at all. In Staten Island they are dumpster diving.
But of course, those in need are white people and the president is Obama, and chris Christie will rue the day he boosted Barack.
I told my daughter the other day: the moral of the story is: don’t EVER be dependent on the government, you’ll end up cold and hungry.
Our tremendously good friends have helped us SO MUCH through this storm. I don’t want to put their names out here, but B. & T. have truly been life & sanity savers. Their kindness is truly a mitzvah and can never be repaid.
And, back on topic, we went out to dinner with them the other day, got merely adequate service and left a 15% tip!
I can understand SOME of it, but not all of it. I sure can’t understand undermining people who are actually WORKING for a living.
And incidentally, I have always hated that phrase. Dangerous ground to trod. Afterall, what do the scriptures say about calling another person a fool?
It does say, though, that a fool has said in his heart there is no God. Since I have not denied the existence of God, I think I’m ok.
No actually, I prefer the term idiot. At least that is a clinical term and it might get me some of that wonderful Obamacare assistance. :D
I try to tip well because: I’ve worked in food service and know what it’s like to wait on people who treat me like a retard or a human vending machine; and, the last customer probably stiffed the poor kid waiting on me.

They don’t know what’s in the waiter’s pocket....and they don’t know why I gave them that money..... it would be hard to prove IMO ;o)
